Heart of Los Angeles Student Being a parent is crucial to be able to guide your kids and set them on a path where they will be able to succeed and see their losses not as a loss but as a lesson. HOLA has taken a huge part in this path bringing great programs and educating our young minds to prepare themselves for the real world. Having my kids be able to join their sports program with such an outstanding basketball coach like Coach Kristina has been life-changing for me. In the past three years I have been a part of this, I can attest that everyone is treated equally and no one is left behind. I am committed to leading the excellent work at Heart of Los Angeles and believe every young person deserves equitable access to high quality enrichment programs. At Heart of Los Angeles, we help our young people break down barriers, which impact our students of color particularly hard, serving students across LA County at our Westlake/MacArthur Park and South Central LA partnership campuses. Heart of Los Angeles’ work is essential for creating communities focused on bettering young people’s futures. Serving kids aged 6-24, many of whom overcome poverty to become the first in their families to attend colleges, trade schools, or certification programs, Heart of Los Angeles encourages youth to achieve their dreams and pursue their passions. I am committed to expanding opportunities and actively advocating for greater access to state and federal funding for after-school organizations. As the Governance Board Chair for Expand LA, a CA3 Advocacy Steering Committee member, and a Commissioner of the California Senate Rules Committee, I promote policies enhancing the quality and accessibility of after-school programs and advise on state and federal policy and funding issues to impact more young people across our state. And with that work, I am able to better serve our Heart of Los Angeles community and sustainably grow our community of leaders to create more impactful, locally-driven change. I am led by a singular goal – to help every young person in Los Angeles realize their full potential – and hope you will join me in achieving this critical mission. IBP X Heart of LA Bicycle Fundraiser “I discovered HOLA and immediately fell in love with the work it was doing for the youth of Los Angeles. I was inspired by the stories of these talented, brilliant, hardworking kids and the loving mentors and counselors who care for each of them as though they were their own. I am proud to give because I am completely in awe of the dedication and determination of these young people, who I know will change the world for the better. Stacy Fung Heart of LA Donor Our daughters were part of the YOLA at HOLA music program for ten years, they started when they were seven years old. The teachers are so great. Their hearts are so warm and they really love the kids. You can feel it. During COVID, I thought YOLA at HOLA was done, but you know, they kept on working. Every week my daughter could get private lessons from the teachers. We’re so appreciative and thankful for this organization. I work full-time and don't have the space to volunteer, but we wanted to support the program in other ways so we make contributions to HOLA’s general fund as often as we can. Jung Ki and Kyoung Shin Heart of LA Parents My name is Rachel K. I am an 11th grader. I give my support to the kids here at HOLA by providing my time, knowledge, and love of education to help elementary school students find their passion for science. My team and I lead weekly Scientific Arts projects like the Fundamentals of Robotics and Chemistry Ice Cream Making. I realized as students, we’re given a lot of opportunities at our school, which has really small class sizes. We found other schools and other communities lack that same opportunity. We wanted to share our love of science and education with kids just starting on their education pathways. Heart of Los Angeles helps young people overcome barriers through exceptional, free, integrated programs and personalized guidance in a trusted, nurturing environment. Our organization builds quality connections between K-12 leaders, families, and local organizations to holistically serve kids in Los Angeles’ historically underserved neighborhoods. Heart of Los Angeles was founded in 1989 by Mitchel Moore, at Immanuel Presbyterian Church, where he was inspired to create free, youth-centered programming to fill an expansive gap impacting youth in under-resourced communities. Heart of Los Angeles has grown to serve over 3,100 kids annually at sites in MacArthur Park/Westlake, South Central, and Watts. By bridging a critical, widening resource gap for students and families in Los Angeles, Heart of Los Angeles provides a breadth of leadership and advocacy opportunities, reaffirming our commitment to cultivating engaged leaders and change makers equipped to seed transformative, community-driven change. I want the world to know that every individual has the potential to do good in this world with their own unique talents. We just need to be given that chance to reach our full potential. And that is what Heart of LA (HOLA) does for the youth in the communities we serve. Tony Brown, Chief Executive Officer Our Mission Heart of Los Angeles helps young people overcome barriers through exceptional, free, integrated programs and personalized guidance in a trusted, nurturing environment. Our Core Values Respect Responsibility Support Positive Communication Inclusion We expect youth to meaningfully engage in the world around them. We believe every child can be a productive, caring, and responsible citizen, working hand-in-hand with staff, board members, volunteers, policy makers, and parents, to make our community a better place. Our Approach Our student and family-led model for improving academic, health, and community outcomes advances equity through high-quality, wrap-around supports to serve kids’ every need. We provide structure, predictability, and reliability in kids’ environment and relationships. We deliver high quality programming, validating early accomplishments, to nurture kids’ interests in academics, sports, music, and visual arts. We support kids with taking the next step, supporting students interested in pursuing new programming, attending college, or engaging with our partners. We challenge students to think bigger about the future and their potential, inspiring kids with possibility. We cultivate a forum for collective action, empowering kids and their families to lead incremental, localized, and impactful change in our communities. Equity Statement The concept of equity is foundational for Heart of Los Angeles, and we are proud that an asset-based approach, which focuses on our students through the lens of their value and potential rather than being defined by the challenges they face, has long guided our work with students, employees, and the community at large. To learn more about Heart of LA’s commitment to practicing equity, please use our Contact Form to request our Equity Statement. Our Story In 1989, Heart of Los Angeles was founded by Mitchel Moore, who invited a handful of young people to play basketball in an old gym at a local church. Moore was inspired to take action after witnessing local kids’ need for support outside of school, building relationships with kids on the court – as peers. Thirty-five years later, Heart of Los Angeles has grown to serve more than 3,100 kids each year through structured and exceptional programming across the city. We don’t need to wait for public education to be perfect to start making a difference in the lives of young people. We can change kids’ chances to learn in this city right now–today. We always hear in youth development about giving kids “a chance.” A chance? Just one? No. Let’s give kids everything. Everything they need to achieve success. The look a person gets when they do achieve it or even how you pivot if it doesn't quite work out the way you want, well that's just a particular soft spot that I have, watching the next generation be able to attain all that. Heart of LA Mentor My goal as a mentor is to provide guidance to others that have similar backgrounds to me. It can be more of a challenge, having parents who immigrated here, there is a weight on you to be successful and having someone to lean on for guidance is invaluable. The mentorship program and having a mentor to lean on and guide you is super valuable. Heart of LA Mentor I've had other mentors growing up, transitioning into college, into the workforce, and I know how important it is to have somebody to look up to, somebody you can rely on, and know that you can always come to with questions or concerns and that they're there to help you. I love being that for somebody else, especially at such a vital time of their adolescence. It’s really inspiring! Heart of LA Mentor My path wasn’t linear and there were many disappointments along the way. But overall I achieved what it was that I set out to do after graduating high school, and that is to be a professional creative, fully independent - supporting myself and now others around me. I'd like to show them that outlook and perspective can change everything, focus now to reap the benefits later! Heart of LA Mentor Being a mentor is not just supporting them to populate this and that with information but it's also about letting them know that they have someone that's behind them, that someone that is there supporting them, and that, like, they're not alone in that journey. Heart of LA Mentor As a mentor, I want [my mentees] to know that whatever they want to pursue is possible, there's a framework for it that we can help provide. That's what I'm trying to do. Just let them know that, truly. The possibilities are endless for them, regardless of their situation. Heart of LA Mentor My goal is to be a resource that's valuable to the students in the way that they need. It becomes so complex, this application process and the amount of opportunities. There's just so much that in a way that you can't just say, go off and do it by yourself. Heart of LA Mentor It's really all hands on deck. And if I have a set of hands that are going to help float the boat, I’ll do what I can, why not? Heart of LA Mentor Heart of Los Angeles is a 501(c)(3) charity. A gift from the Global Data Registry

When the Global Data Registry crawled http://heartofla.org/, we found no structured data — the language AI systems use to understand and describe a business online.

Schema is how ChatGPT, Google, Claude, Gemini, and Perplexity know what your business does and how to describe you accurately to your customers. Without it, AI systems are guessing.

The most important field in this block is sameAs — a verified edge connecting your website to your permanent record at the Global Data Registry. This is a free, confirmed link to a real verified source. It costs nothing and gives your website a confirmed node in the graph that AI systems traverse when building answers about your business.

Copy the block below and paste it into the <head> of your website. Or drop it into ChatGPT, Claude, or Gemini and ask it to extend it with your full business details — that is the fastest path to a complete schema record.

▶   What is schema?

Schema is a standard vocabulary maintained at schema.org that lets websites describe themselves in a language machines can read. When you add schema to your website, you are telling AI systems, search engines, and knowledge graphs exactly what your business is and how it connects to the rest of the web.
