Our goal is to match a volunteer tutor with every student at Franklin who needs one.  Tutor the Tigers runs after-school at Franklin Monday through Friday . To learn more about how you can volunteer for this program contact Danny Fitelson .   Elementary After-school Program During the school year, we open our doors to children from Franklin Elementary for our elementary after-school program. Harbor House staff pick the kids up from Franklin and walk them three blocks to Harbor House.  We feed them a hearty supper and give them time to play outside before coming inside for Academic Hour and Enrichment Clubs.  Interns from our Youth Leadership Program help lead the children through their activities and volunteers come to teach enrichment clubs.   Middle School After-school Program We pick up students from nearby middle schools on Tuesdays and Thursdays and bring them to Harbor House for an afternoon of snacks, homework, enrichment clubs, rest, and community building. Students participate in volunteer-led enrichment activities such as music, sewing, architecture, and science. This program gives young people a place to connect and belong.    Harbor House Ministries 1811 11th Avenue Oakland, CA 94606 (510) 534-0165 [email protected] church websites by clover Harbor House Ministries, Inc. | Mission, History, and Values Skip to main content Menu Menu Home About Us Mission, History, and Values Neighborhood Leadership Programs Education Spiritual Formation Leadership Development Summer Day Camp Food and Clothing Access Partners Cultivating Joy Oakland Martinez Volunteer Give Pray Home About Us Mission, History, and Values Neighborhood Leadership Programs Education Spiritual Formation Leadership Development Summer Day Camp Food and Clothing Access Partners Cultivating Joy Oakland Martinez Volunteer Give Pray Mission, History, and Values Neighborhood Leadership LOADING PLAYER… Mission and History Harbor House is a Christian community development organization in Oakland, California.  Our mission is to provide a safe place for opportunities, resources, and relationships to be shared so that children, teens, and families may flourish.   For five decades, Harbor House has served thousands of families through high quality programs that nurture heart, soul, mind, and body.  Olive Freeman, a fourth grade teacher in Oakland, noticed that some of her students lacked basic necessities. Compelled by her love of Jesus, Mrs. Freeman responded by gathering food, clothing, and books and handing them out from the trunk of her car. She also began tutoring her students after school. After a while, the local baker and postal carrier joined her in their spare time, followed by other volunteers from Mrs. Freeman's church. They raised funds, prayed, and in time were able to purchase a large Victorian house on the corner of 18th Street and 11th Avenue in the San Antonio district of Oakland.  Harbor House Ministries incorporated as a non-profit in 1972. What started as one woman responding to needs in the community is now a multifaceted community development organization offering hope to hundreds of families each year. Values Our three core values act as strategic anchors as we make decisions about our programming.   Centered On Jesus In response to the love, compassion, and Good News that we receive from Jesus, we serve our neighbors for His glory and share His great love.  RElational Knowing that all people need healthy, safe, and caring relationships to thrive, we create spaces for the development of mutually beneficial relationships which break down racial, ethnic, and economic barriers.   empowering All people are created in the image of God with gifts to share.  We celebrate the value, talents, and dignity of our neighbors and deliver services in a way that empowers participants.    Harbor House Ministries 1811 11th Avenue Oakland, CA 94606 (510) 534-0165 [email protected] church websites by clover Harbor House Ministries, Inc. | Leadership Development Skip to main content Menu Menu Home About Us Mission, History, and Values Neighborhood Leadership Programs Education Spiritual Formation Leadership Development Summer Day Camp Food and Clothing Access Partners Cultivating Joy Oakland Martinez Volunteer Give Pray Home About Us Mission, History, and Values Neighborhood Leadership Programs Education Spiritual Formation Leadership Development Summer Day Camp Food and Clothing Access Partners Cultivating Joy Oakland Martinez Volunteer Give Pray Education Spiritual Formation Leadership Development Summer Day Camp Food and Clothing Access Youth Leadership   Program   The Harbor House Youth Leadership Program (YLP) develops and encourages high school students in Oakland to be agents of positive change in their community. Through these practices, students will explore identities, learn to manage emotions, and develop healthy rhythms to navigate the challenges of everyday life.  Soul Care happens on Wednesdays for our elementary students, Fridays for our middle school students, and Fridays for our high school students. Godly Play Godly Play is a curriculum of spiritual practice, exploring the mystery of God's presence in our lives. It engages what is most exciting about religious education: God inviting us into Scripture and a deeper spiritual experience. Godly Play teaches us to listen for God and to respond authentically and creatively to His call in our lives.  We offer Godly Play lessons during Advent, Lent, and in the summertime.     Harbor House Ministries 1811 11th Avenue Oakland, CA 94606 (510) 534-0165 [email protected] church websites by clover Harbor House Ministries, Inc. | Volunteer Skip to main content Menu Menu Home About Us Mission, History, and Values Neighborhood Leadership Programs Education Spiritual Formation Leadership Development Summer Day Camp Food and Clothing Access Partners Cultivating Joy Oakland Martinez Volunteer Give Pray Home About Us Mission, History, and Values Neighborhood Leadership Programs Education Spiritual Formation Leadership Development Summer Day Camp Food and Clothing Access Partners Cultivating Joy Oakland Martinez Volunteer Give Pray Be a Hero. Maria and her husband have four children: one college graduate, two currently in college, and one in high school.  Maria also likes to volunteer with her church and her son's school to help the kids of Oakland flourish. KACIE STRATTON | Executive Director A former elementary and middle school speech-language pathologist, Kacie is passionate about developing leaders in under-resourced communities.  She has a strong vision for coming alongside whole families and assisting them to achieve their full potential.  Before coming to Harbor House, she was the founder of The GreenHouse, a nonprofit organization in Sacramento where she served as Executive Director for ten years.  She and her husband Steve have three grown sons who recently all left the nest.  BETHANY GULLAT | ELEMENTARY PROGRAMS ASSISTANT Bethany first came to Harbor House as a summer intern in high school and stayed on for the academic year working with our fourth and fifth grade students.  After graduating from Oakland High, Bethany started classes at Laney College. During that season she also took advantage of opportunities at Harbor House to grow spiritually, including The Mix Youth Group and Ladies Summer Soul Care.  Before long, Bethany was hired as an Elementary Programs Assistant leading our K/1st grade class.  DEE ACKHART | DIRECTOR OF ADMIN  & Resource distribution Dee was once a youth at Harbor House so she rivals Maria for being involved in our ministry the longest.  Dee's roots in our community run deep.  In fact, her fourth grade teacher at Lazear Elementary was Olive Freeman, the founder of Harbor House!  Dee has many fond memories of coming to Harbor House as a youth for Bible Clubs and after-school programs.  As a teen in the 80s, she helped answer phones at Harbor House and now she gets to do that again a few decades later as our Director of Administration.   NICOLE AMBRIZ | DIRECTOR OF operations   Nicole has called Oakland home for the last 18 years.  She loves being a part of First Covenant Church of Oakland where her husband is the lead pastor.  Prior to joining the Harbor House team, Nicole spent time working in both higher education and early education.  More recently, she spent four years in elementary education as a homeschooling parent to her 2 kids. Nicole's desire to see Oakland's students succeed and Oakland's families thrive fuels her work at Harbor House.  In her free time, she can be found enjoying the beautiful Bay Area trails and scenery with her family. ASOLIA ZHARMENOVA |  DIRECTOR OF SPIRITUAL FORMATION Asolia was born and raised cross culturally. She loves to connect with young people who share in that experience at Harbor House. As a musician, she believes that engaging in the arts echoes our spiritual formation through an uncovering and discovering of the soul.  She hopes that more people realize their potential as creative beings. In her free time, she enjoys listening to all kinds of music, trying out new recipes, and traveling. Jenay Hatchell | DIRECTOR OF LEADERSHIP DEVELOPMENT Jenay grew up in Oakland and first came to Harbor House as a high school summer intern in 2017. She became passionate about education reform and uplifting disenfranchised youth due to her experiences with Oakland schools. She feels blessed to be leading the same program she was once a part of herself. Jenay graduated from Howard University with a B.A. in Political Science and a minor Psychology. In her free time, Jenay enjoys taking hikes, exploring new places, trying new foods, and going to artistic events. Jenay learned how to cook from watching the Food Network and Tik Tok, and is a self proclaimed professional chef to her friends and family. Danny Fitelson   | DIRECTOR OF COMMUNITY PARTNERSHIPS Danny was born in Oakland and went to school at Thornhill, Montera and Skyline. His Christian faith developed after a friend invited him to the youth group at First Covenant Church, where he later served as a pastor for 20 years.  Danny loves to work with teens and young adults to put on programs that help kids feel valued. In his spare time,  Danny likes to hang out with his wife and two daughters, watch movies that have something to say, and coach volleyball.   DAMILOLA OGUNDIPE   | DIRECTOR OF EDUCATION   Dami   has extensive experience teaching in diverse educational settings across Nigeria, her home country. With a master's degree in Curriculum and Instruction, Dami   leverages her knowlege and skills to empower others. She is inspired by witnessing a positive, all-round change in children. Together with her husband Bolu, they have two young boys who keep them on their toes. In her leisure,   Dami enjoys surfing the internet and watching detective/law movies. EMMA REYES | ELEMENTARY PROGRAMS ASSISTANT Emma first came to Harbor House in high school as an intern through our Youth Leadership Program. Since then, she's graduated from Oakland Tech and started classes at Laney College in music and child development. This year, Emma joined our staff as our 4th/5th grade classroom leader. She enjoys building relationships with her students and supporting them academically and emotionally. In her free time, Emma likes to play bass, guitar, and ukulele and sing at local events. She's been leading worship at her church, Encounter, since middle school - something that gives her joy.   ELIAS TADESSE  | ELEMENTARY PROGRAMS ASSISTANT The son of an Oakland businessowner, Elias spent most of his younger days helping out his dad at Skyline Pizza. He attended OUSD schools for elementary, middle, and high school, and recently graduated from San Francisco State with a degree in Film. Elias loves art and can play 6 different musical instruments! An active member of Shiloh Church, Elias also volunteers with the middle school group at First Covenant Church.  In addition to leading our 2nd/3rd grade classroom and helping out with middle school and high school programs at Harbor House, Elias is also a tutor at Merritt College.  In his free-time (which isn't much), he enjoys spending time with friends: watching movies, playing basketball, and learning new board games.        Board of Directors The Harbor House Board of Directors is entrusted with the advocacy, governance, and sustainability of the organization.  The Board meets monthly to pray, hear from the Executive Director, review financial statements, and attend to other tasks related to the health of the organization.  Here are the current members of our board: Evan Barnhart (Chair) , Teacher/Administrator, Redwood Christian Schools Kenzie Sodestrom  (Secretary) , Marriage and Family Therapist Perry Sakai (Treasurer) , Pastor at First Covenant Church of Oakland's Cambodian Ministry Jen McKillips , Former Director of Project Peace Emilio Hernandez , Painter, Harbor House Parent Sharon Jan , Program Manager at Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory  Harbor House Ministries, Inc. | Oakland Skip to main content Menu Menu Home About Us Mission, History, and Values Neighborhood Leadership Programs Education Spiritual Formation Leadership Development Summer Day Camp Food and Clothing Access Partners Cultivating Joy Oakland Martinez Volunteer Give Pray Home About Us Mission, History, and Values Neighborhood Leadership Programs Education Spiritual Formation Leadership Development Summer Day Camp Food and Clothing Access Partners Cultivating Joy Oakland Martinez Volunteer Give Pray Oakland Martinez Hang tight while we prepare your form... A gift from the Global Data Registry

When the Global Data Registry crawled http://hhministries.org/, we found no structured data — the language AI systems use to understand and describe a business online.

Schema is how ChatGPT, Google, Claude, Gemini, and Perplexity know what your business does and how to describe you accurately to your customers. Without it, AI systems are guessing.

The most important field in this block is sameAs — a verified edge connecting your website to your permanent record at the Global Data Registry. This is a free, confirmed link to a real verified source. It costs nothing and gives your website a confirmed node in the graph that AI systems traverse when building answers about your business.

Copy the block below and paste it into the <head> of your website. Or drop it into ChatGPT, Claude, or Gemini and ask it to extend it with your full business details — that is the fastest path to a complete schema record.

▶   What is schema?

Schema is a standard vocabulary maintained at schema.org that lets websites describe themselves in a language machines can read. When you add schema to your website, you are telling AI systems, search engines, and knowledge graphs exactly what your business is and how it connects to the rest of the web.
