Advisory Wildwood School is distinguished by its internationally recognized Advisory program, which begins in 5th grade and deepens in content and engagement throughout middle and upper school. Advisory offers a structured curriculum that integrates academic support, team building, Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, and Belonging programs, community involvement, and activities that incorporate higher-level thinking and communication skills. Students develop supportive relationships with adults they trust, as well as with their peers. These strongly established connections are foundational to progressing from elementary through middle and upper as academic rigor increases and social networks evolve. The small advisory group setting, consisting of approximately 10-12 students, is a natural incubator where norms are established and students can try out new ideas and explore their own identities. In the process, they cultivate a sense of self—academically, emotionally, and socially. OUTDOOR EDUCATION Forging Classmate Connections At Wildwood's middle and upper school, retreats and outdoor education are an integral part of our Advisory and Social Emotional Learning (SEL) programs. The lessons learned and connections made serve students well both during their time at Wildwood and beyond. Hyperlink Wildwood is a participatory adventure where students take an active role in their education through programs like Advisory. I think it’s great to have a community of people that you can fall back on. Your advisory is a group of people that you can trust. Gateways and Senior Exhibitions Upper school Gateways and Senior Exhibitions provide 10th and 12th grade students with the opportunity to explore who they are as learners and people in the world and how the tenets of Wildwood's Portrait of a Lifelong Learner have contributed to their growth. WATCH A Glimpse of Gateways and Exhibitions Selected excerpts from Gateways and Exhibitions reveal the progression of student learning. Hyperlink A critical part of our program, these two upper school hallmarks allow students to model the skills, thoroughness, and reflective practices that they have developed during their time at Wildwood and showcase their readiness to advance to the next phase of their learning. With their advisors and teachers as coaches, students reflect on their experiences in order to create a culminating self-assessment of their time at Wildwood. It’s a powerful moment that synthesizes their Wildwood journey and demonstrates the impact of their education. Gateways and Exhibitions help develop presentation, long-term project management, and reflection skills. Wildwood has the audacity to ask 16-year-olds to do really important things. A lot of schools want to build skills for the future. But at Wildwood, I never felt too young or too limited to do important work, in the classroom and outside the classroom. Alumni Artists Celebrate Wildwood Alumni Artists Celebrate Wildwood The Wildwood art gallery kicked off its 2021-2022 season with a special exhibition of alumni works, co-curated by alumna Gracie Simpson Dixon ‘09. Featuring the artwork of 12 Wildwood alumni ranging from the classes of 2008-2021, “Celebrate Wildwood: 1971-2021” was a joyful celebration of Wildwood’s visual arts program and the lasting impact it continues to have on Wildwood students long after they graduate. “I am so grateful that my time at Wildwood was full of teachers both in and out of the visual arts program who supported and encouraged my creativity,” said Anna Ramsey ‘15, one of the exhibition’s featured artists. “Because of these experiences, I continued my education with a Bachelor of Arts in Studio Art and am now getting a Masters of Social Work with the goal of doing art therapy in the near future. Wildwood helped shape who I am today and I am forever grateful.” Other alumni artists shared similar sentiments regarding Wildwood’s impact on their work. “My Wildwood experience instilled in me a curiosity and desire to explore the world and ask questions of myself and those around me,” said Jacob Moss ‘09. “The years spent immersed in a nurturing and creative environment undoubtedly made a huge impact on my development as an artist.” The exhibition included more than 20 paintings and photographs, as well as sculptures, and several short films. Kayli Joy C. '22 Selected as a Prudential Emerging Visionary Kayli Joy C. '22 Selected as a Prudential Emerging Visionary Kayli Joy C. ‘22 was selected by Prudential Financial for its inaugural class of Prudential Emerging Visionaries—25 young people from across the country with an inspiring commitment to improving the lives of others. This work includes addressing needs created by the COVID-19 pandemic, combating economic inequality, advocating for inclusion and closing the digital divide. This inaugural group of young leaders was selected based on four main criteria: their solution is innovative; it can create meaningful impact in the future and can scale to a wider community; it demonstrates a deep understanding of the issue; and it inspires the visionary to lead or take action and motivates others to do the same. Kayli Joy is the creator of “Girl Well”, a nonprofit that aims to make self-care accessible for teenage girls facing displacement, transition, or homelessness by curating self-care kits that emphasize physical, emotional and mental wellness. Girl Well is one of several nonprofit organizations partnering with the Wildwood Institute for Social Leadership (WISL), part of Wildwood's Institute Model . Open to Wildwood upper school students, WISL is a collaborative consultancy whose mission is to address social issues by conducting community investigations and field research, resulting in both deep understanding and concrete plans to actively create positive change. “I started Girl Well because I saw an equity gap and knew it needed to be filled,” says Kayli Joy, who joined WISL's Senior Seminar called Social Problems in America her senior year at Wildwood. “I know there can be change in the world and it starts with me.” As a Prudential Emerging Visionary, Kayli Joy will receive $5,000 in funding to continue her work. Kayli Joy was also recently selected to be part of the landmark 15th year of Disney Dreamers Academy Program, an educational mentorship program created and hosted by Walt Disney World Resort. In March, she will join the 100 students selected for the annual program for a week of workshops and sessions at Walt Disney World Resort in Orlando, Fla., on leadership skills, effective communication techniques and networking strategies. Kayli Joy recently spoke with FOX LA about Girl Well and being named a Prudential Emerging Visionary. Elementary School Overview Children are active learners. They read, write stories, complete research projects, compute and solve problems, conduct science experiments, and create performances and artwork. Wildwood is a place where curiosity and enthusiasm thrives. Nurturing Young Learners Each day is designed to be an adventure in hands-on activities and project-based learning . As students learn to explore the world around them through social studies, reading, writing, mathematics, science, and the arts, our dedicated teachers encourage them to find their voices, collaborate with peers, and grow as compassionate leaders. Incubating Curiosity From the beginning, students are engaged as leaders of their own learning. Teachers shape the learning experiences by using a Systems Thinking approach that provides students with an opportunity to make connections between themselves and the world in which they live. Project Highlight Delivering Joy Through the Wildwood Post Office As part of a year-long focus on community, and what it means to be part of and contribute to one, Wildwood's 2nd grade class revived a tradition of days past—the Wildwood Post Office. Hyperlink Elementary School Environment Kindergarten through 5th grade students have an entire campus of their own to explore, with unique, age-appropriate settings that inspire creative learning and community. For instance, an outdoor classroom centered in the school garden engages students to think deeply about the natural systems around them, while our Futures Lab serves as both a maker studio as well as a STEM-based lab space for hands-on exploration. Meanwhile, the library, intentionally positioned just inside the campus gates, serves as a central hub for the school, with students passing through on their way to classrooms and throughout the day. Throughout their time at the elementary campus, students are immersed in a safe and loving environment where confidence, independence, and responsibility are developed. Beginning in kindergarten, teachers balance academics with mastery of fundamental skills in critical and creative thinking. Building upon this solid foundational year, 1st through 5th grade students dive deeper into Wildwood's Life Skills and project-based learning curriculum. Fifth grade introduces students to Wildwood’s Advisory program , as well as a rotating academic schedule, to help prepare them for a seamless transition into middle school . For over 50 years, Wildwood School has been committed to a progressive approach defined by research-driven educational practices. Flexible Tuition Guidelines The National Association of Independent Schools Principles of Good Practice for Financial Aid states that the "primary responsibility for a student's independent school tuition rests with the student's family." Seeking families who make education a priority in allocating financial resources, Wildwood School recognizes that every family's situation is unique. There is no single factor that determines who should apply for Flexible Tuition, or who is eligible for the program. The following general guidelines are provided to help a family understand some of the factors considered in the application. There is no set income or asset level that determines whether an applicant qualifies for Flexible Tuition. All sources of income are taken into consideration. Those include, but are not limited to: parents’ income, child’s income, family partnerships, gifts, and any other beneficial interests from which income or principal is derived. Assets are also considered. Although financial circumstances may change after a family enrolls, it is unlikely that Flexible Tuition funds will be available for currently enrolled students not previously in the program. In cases of separated and divorced parents, the same documentation is required from both parents, regardless of court ordered custody or support. If granted, Flexible Tuition covers a percentage of tuition and fees; the school expects that families will fulfill their remaining financial obligation in accordance with our regular payment schedules. Nondiscriminatory Policy as to Students Wildwood School policy prohibits unlawful discrimination based on race, color, creed, sex, gender identity, religion, marital status, registered domestic partner, or any other consideration made unlawful by federal, state, or local law or ordinance or regulation. Wildwood School also prohibits unlawful discrimination based on the perception that anyone has any of those characteristics or is associated with a person who has or is perceived as having any of those characteristics. Hyperlink A Lab for the Future of Education When Wildwood opened its middle and upper campus in 2000, our Board of Trustees had a parallel vision: To create a lab for the future of education that’s devoted to sharing our innovative and research-based approach to education, exchanging ideas with global thought leaders, and supporting public and independent schools in their efforts to create learner-centered schools. That vision crystallized in 2001 when the Wildwood Outreach Center was awarded a multi-year grant from the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation , and has been further enhanced and affirmed with support from The Carl & Roberta Deutsch Foundation , The Cynthia & George Mitchell Foundation , and the State Farm Companies Foundation , ensuring that Wildwood’s philosophy and practice will always be at the leading edge of what works in schools and made available to others at schools everywhere. Framework for the Future of Education at Wildwood In spring 2019, the Wildwood School Board of Trustees launched a multi-phase process to envision the school’s future and its service to children, young adults, and their families. In the years ahead, Wildwood School will pursue its mission with a focus on four priorities, all interrelated. It is at the points of intersection where they will have the most power. Intentionally envisioned as a roadmap to follow—rather than goals to be met—this document is meant to guide the Board, school staff, and key volunteers in decision-making and goal-setting as Wildwood navigates the future. With gratitude for all involved in Task Forces and Design Teams, we are pleased to provide the following Framework for the Future of Wildwood. Expand the outstanding academic, athletic, and artistic experiences available K-12. Ensure a seamless K-12 experience for students no matter their entry point; provide for strong foundations so students can challenge themselves and be challenged academically, socially, artistically, and physically. Increasingly integrate the work of diversity, equity, inclusion, and belonging (DEIB) across culture, curriculum, and programs, including core academic content, arts programming, community involvement and service learning, and International Community Involvement (ICI) program. Expand both the influence and reach of Wildwood School’s innovative models, with an eye toward positively impacting education practices before, during, and after the K-12 experience. Take advantage of in-house experts—exceptional faculty, administrators, and non-teaching staff—to develop a K-12 Professional Development Leadership Team (PDLT), tying all teaching and learning to strategic priorities, both capitalizing on and contributing to the work of the Outreach Center. Guiding Questions for the Future of Programs Guiding Questions for the Future of Programs What are the competencies that students will need for their future, and how is Wildwood uniquely prepared to provide them? How can innovative programming like Systems Thinking, Into the Wild, and The Institute Model inform and propel innovation in other areas of students’ K-12 Wildwood School experience? How can we better engage with the city of Los Angeles, our geography, and available physical spaces to help us cultivate active citizens? What are the markers of a globally-minded student? What do Wildwood students look like, growing from their first year through 12th grade, and how can we best ensure a continuity of experience and preparation for a changing higher education landscape? Strategically foster a climate of inclusion, belonging, and wellbeing so that all members of the Wildwood community can be confident that they belong and are connected to each other and to the world; deliberately pursue an “all in, all thrive” philosophy to guide diversity, equity, inclusion, and belonging (DEIB) programming. Coordinate wellness and inclusion programs to foster overall emotional, social, and physical wellbeing, bringing related programming—advisory, wellness, DEIB, etc.—under one umbrella using a Wellness Center model. Revise social-emotional learning curricula and advisory programming scope and sequence to ensure students’ needs are being met in the years immediately following the COVID-19 pandemic and concurrent expansion of global efforts to address systemic racism. Establish key indicators to identify and address students’ needs; rely on data to develop initiatives and evaluate the success of program changes, systems, and structures designed to promote experiential equity and belonging. Embrace the fact that students’ personal and work lives will be inextricably tied to the digital world, and expand the development of the school’s Digital Citizenship Scope and Sequence to address students’ needs in age-appropriate ways from kindergarten through college. At Wildwood, the program begins in 5th grade and continues throughout middle and upper school. The curriculum includes topics such as global citizenship skills and DEIB issues. All School Meeting All School Meetings are a time for community building as students, faculty, staff, gather for news, announcements, and programming. At elementary, they also include “Meet the Leader” shares, led by 5th grade students. Assessment See Mastery Assessment/Narrative Assessment below. Block Building Block building is an important component of the K-2 curriculum. Students are encouraged to work together to build structures connected to what they are learning about collectively as a class or of something that is centered around current interests and wonderings. Children learn to solve structural dilemmas and employ mathematics to understand patterns, geometric shapes, fractions, addition, and division. Both/And Thinking Both/And Thinking is a guideline of Wildwood’s multicultural practice; the notion that two seemingly paradoxical or conflicting truths can coexist within the same space. Chalk Talk A chalk talk is a silent group activity that allows participants to share what they know or think, and also respond to others' thoughts and observations. A teacher writes a question or statement on the board and students respond as they feel moved; they also respond to other students’ input. CO:LAB Wildwood’s Collaboration Laboratory (CO:LAB) houses the middle and upper school’s library collection, the Wildwood Institute for Social Leadership, and serves as the primary place for members of the community to come together to collaborate. Community Involvement (CI) Wildwood’s Community Involvement (CI) program engages K-12 students in class and schoolwide projects and partnerships that aim to be mutually beneficial, related to classroom learning, and respond to a real need. Through CI experiences interwoven with the academic program, students gain perspective and come to understand the impact one individual can have on the world. Contemporary Multicultural Issue (CMI) Contemporary Multicultural Issues (CMIs) are monthly facilitated lessons for students around contemporary topics happening around the world, touching on at least one of the primary dimensions of self. You could think of CMIs as current events discussions on a more sophisticated level; they involve higher order thinking about what’s happening in our world and why, and they always connect to our diversity, equity, inclusion, and belonging (DEIB) work. Demo Short for “demonstration of knowledge,” demos are a way of assessing student knowledge or skills by checking for understanding in our project-based learning environment. Dimensions of Self In multicultural practice, the understanding that a person's identity comprises many dimensions, namely Age, Ability, Gender, Sexual Orientation, Religion, Socio-Economic Class, Ethnicity, and Race. Essential Question A central facet of student-centered or project based learning, essential questions are "questions that are not answerable with finality in a brief sentence… Their aim is to stimulate thought, to provoke inquiry, and to spark more questions — including thoughtful student questions — not just pat answers" (McTighe and Wiggins). Examples include: ”Where is the intersection of politics, economics, religion, and culture?” or “What does it mean to be an American?” Fishbowls A discussion strategy in which a small group of participants sits in a small circle and shares insights and asks questions around a specif Wolves Making Waves Winter 2024 | Post Details - Wildwood School --> Skip To Main Content Menu Search search-form#clearSearch'> Clear Search About Us Mission and History Fast Facts Leadership Board of Trustees Head of School Senior Leadership Wildwood Parent Community and Involvement Head of School Search Faculty and Staff Employment Working at Wildwood Living in Los Angeles Available Positions International Partners Mastery Transcript Consortium Global Citizenship Newsroom and Publications What Makes Us Wildwood? A gift from the Global Data Registry

When the Global Data Registry crawled http://www.wildwood.org/, we found no structured data — the language AI systems use to understand and describe a business online.

Schema is how ChatGPT, Google, Claude, Gemini, and Perplexity know what your business does and how to describe you accurately to your customers. Without it, AI systems are guessing.

The most important field in this block is sameAs — a verified edge connecting your website to your permanent record at the Global Data Registry. This is a free, confirmed link to a real verified source. It costs nothing and gives your website a confirmed node in the graph that AI systems traverse when building answers about your business.

Copy the block below and paste it into the
of your website. Or drop it into ChatGPT, Claude, or Gemini and ask it to extend it with your full business details — that is the fastest path to a complete schema record.

▶ What is schema?

Schema is a standard vocabulary maintained at schema.org that lets websites describe themselves in a language machines can read. When you add schema to your website, you are telling AI systems, search engines, and knowledge graphs exactly what your business is and how it connects to the rest of the web.
