Services City Government Resources Search Home NewsFlash Governor Newsom Expands Mortgage Relief Program for One Year to LA Fire Survivors News Flash Governor Newsom Expands Mortgage Relief Program for One Year to LA Fire Survivors Home - News Carousel Posted on February 13, 2026 | Last Updated on February 13, 2026 Governor Newsom Expands Mortgage Relief Program, With a Four-fold Increase In Payments to Los Angeles Fire SURVIVORS Through Governor Newsom’s expansion of the state’s CalAssist mortgage relief program, disaster-affected homeowners now qualify for up to 12 months of mortgage assistance, a four-fold increase from the previous three-month limit, with support available up to $100,000. As part of the state’s ongoing recovery efforts, the expanded program, announced February 12, provides greater financial relief to eligible homeowners impacted by the 2025 LA fires and other qualifying disasters. Homeowners who previously received three months of assistance may qualify for additional support, bringing total relief to a full year. The program now covers up to $100,000 in total assistance, up from $20,000, with payments made directly to mortgage servicers. So far, the state has provided $6.5 million to 793 disaster-impacted homeowners, primarily survivors of the Palisades and Eaton fires. Significant funding is still available -- including those who may need continued relief when forbearance ends. Eligibility has also been expanded. In LA County, households with a combined annual income of up to $281,400 now qualify, a $70,000 increase from the previous limit. Income limits vary by county. Applying is free, and funds are paid directly to mortgage servicers and never have to be repaid. Homeowners are encouraged to apply as soon as possible. For eligibility details and application information, visit the CalAssist Mortgage Fund website HERE or call 800-501-0019.
