We welcome all faiths at Marymount and place an essential focus on helping young women develop a strong moral compass. As a Catholic school, we build on centuries-long, rich tradition of academic excellence, adding a distinctive layer of spiritual development through retreats, regular student Liturgies, and Masses, a broad four-year study of Theology, and a strong commitment to serving underrepresented populations. As an Independent school, we uphold the highest standards of college preparatory curriculum, bringing outstanding faculty, a well-resourced academic program, individualized attention and cutting-edge technology to our students. Marymount girls are designers, artists, coders, engineers, makers and doers. They’re inspired to solve the world’s most pressing problems—and we’re giving them the tools and training to do it!   Among independent schools, Marymount is a leader in technology. We believe scientific inquiry, critical thinking, and the applied use of technology are imperative skills for the future. We believe all students—especially girls—should be challenged to excel in Science, Technology, Engineering, Art, and Math. This is why we’re committed to a dynamic and interactive STEAM program.   STEAM is much more than a collection of academic disciplines—it's an approach to the world that encourages creative thinking, problem-solving, and a willingness to take risks and learn from setbacks. A Hands-On Journey Marymount students demonstrate sustained interest in STEAM programming as they frequently exceed the graduation requirements in Science, Math, and Art! As students enter the Digital Resource Center, home to Marymount's makerspace - the M3 Studio, they are inspired by the sculpture designed by renowned sculptor Dr. George Hart that hangs near the entrance. During the opening of the renovated building, Dr. Hart collaborated with our students in the Makerspace to create the four-foot tall mathematical sculpture! Our M3 Studio is an interdisciplinary workspace frequented by a variety of departments and courses including Studio Arts, English, Geometry, Precalculus, Spanish, Anatomy, and more! For students who are interested in design, ideation, and innovation Marymount has a Maker track of courses to provide them with a sampling of materials, methods, and tools while they explore a variety of fields from a design and fabrication perspective including architecture, furniture, characters, costuming, plushies, circuits, textiles/sewing, and ceramics. All of our students use the makerspace before graduating. Students participating in the SAILL Internship Program gain experience in a variety of STEAM related fields including architecture, medical, engineering and synthesize their Marymount education with the skills they learn during their internships! Students in a surgical internship, prepared STL files and 3D printed heart scans for a surgeon to study prior to operating on his patients. Another student 3D designed a public pavilion and used Marymount's M3 Studio to 3D print her design. Students often win art awards and represent Marymount with their portfolio work. The M3 Studio: Where Innovation Comes to Life Marymount's M3 Studio is home to an instruction space, workroom, and fabrication lab which allows multiple activities and classes the ability to use the space. Student Government Associated Student Body (ASB) and the Class Council, the student government organization at Marymount High School, supports and serves the traditions and community of Marymount by coordinating dances, special events, and ensuring that students feel comfortable at school while balancing fun and responsibility. The members of ASB and Class Council foster a spirit of leadership and inspire girls to get involved on campus. Honor Council Marymount’s Honor Council seeks to ensure an environment where students dedicate themselves to promoting life-long integrity, preventing all breaches of character, and nurturing a love of learning that influences students to take responsibility for their actions, guiding the outcome of ethical decisions at Marymount. Campus Ministry Made up of a leadership team consisting of teachers, sophomores, juniors and seniors, Marymount’s Campus Ministry Team promotes and organizes spiritual and service events throughout the school. Our team leaders meet on a weekly basis to cultivate spiritual life through school masses, social justice activities and other projects throughout the school year. Model United Nations Marymount has held a long-term commitment to the Model United Nations (MUN) program since 1982. Open to all grade levels, approximately 20% of our student body participates in this program at some level. MUN gives students an immersive understanding of issues that concern the global community, as well as the opportunity to develop research, writing, negotiation, speaking and debating skills. For more information on Marymount's award-winning MUN program, CLICK HERE SAILL Internship Program Gaining real-world experience, over 45% of our girls participate in our Students Advancing in Internship Learning and Leadership (SAILL) program, gaining real-life work experience under the guidance of local scholars, mentors, and leaders, at some of the most renowned organizations in the world across the greater Los Angeles region. We offer internships in a range of fields including Finance, Law, Science, Medicine, Technology, Arts, and Architecture. A Better Self for a Better World, all-girls’ leadership conference Originally conceived by a group of students, counselors, and administrators in the summer of 2012, the forward-thinking BSBW team saw an opportunity to expand the Marymount experience of self-empowerment and giving back to a broader group of girls in the Los Angeles area. Now in it’s sixth year, this all girls leadership conference attracts girls from 6th – 9th grade and is fully coordinated and executed by Marymount students. I loved being surrounded by so many smart and ambitious women who have gone on to be incredibly successful. My time at Marymount truly empowered me to be confident and poised as a woman in the board room and in the business world." Kiki Ryan Burger '01: Account Director, Sunshine Sachs "Marymount shaped me during my most developmental years, by encouraging me to explore and trust the person I am, listening to my ideas and introducing me to new people. Marymount also taught me to appreciate the importance of relationships with other women, especially in the workplace but also in my personal life. I no doubt would be a different person today if it weren't for my four years as part of the Marymount community. I truly believe I am a wiser and stronger person for it."  Margy Slattery '07: Associate Editor, Politico Magazine "I feel so grateful for the academic experience I had at Marymount. The small classes and excellent teachers who pushed us to think both collectively and individually created an intellectual experience that is hard to beat and one of the things I loved most about Marymount. Combined with its outward-looking, globally minded roots and mission, Marymount pushed me to truly open my mind to the world outside, something I will always value."  Dr. Natalie Gallant '98: Medical Genetics, Miller Children's Hospital/Long Beach Memorial Medical Center; Professor of Genetic Medicine, U.C. Irvine "For me, Marymount built an unbreakable foundation in the sciences, math, language and public speaking. With that, I was able to excel at an Ivy League institution and be accepted to multiple medical schools. Even now, as a national leader in my field of medical genetics, I draw daily on the confidence, professionalism and emphasis on collaboration I learned during my time at Marymount." Exponential Growth With a modest start, the enrollment comprised merely five students, but through the dedication and commitment of the sisters, the student body expanded to twelve by the end of the year, fondly referred to as the "Daily Dozen." The following year marked a significant milestone as Marymount celebrated its first graduation exercises, commemorating the achievements of three graduating students: Marion Keller Francis ‘25, Katherine Keller O’Brien ‘25, and Christina Koch ‘25. As the years progressed, the student body experienced steady growth, evident in the enrollment numbers reaching forty-two students by September 1924. By 1928, the need for additional space became apparent as the student body surpassed fifty. Responding to this need, in 1929, Mother Cecilia and Mother Butler identified a suitable location between UCLA and the Bel Air Country Club, securing a site that would accommodate the expanding Marymount community.
