HOUSE SYSTEM
The House System is a long-time school tradition at Woodland. Each student is assigned to one of four Houses — Oak, Pine, Maple, or Cypress — when they join the school or begin kindergarten.

Each spring, Woodland eighth grade students present their year-long Capstone projects to the community. This year, at Foothill College, students presented on a wide range of topics, from food insecurity, autism acceptance, and fast fashion to the intensity of youth sports and internet safety. Congratulations to the class of 2026 on a fantastic evening showcasing your research!

Which foreign languages do you offer? What is your homework policy? What are the hours of a typical school day? Do you offer extended day? How often are the students outside? What is the House system and how are my children placed in it? What is the birthday cut-off for Early Childhood and Kindergarten? Does my child need to be potty-trained prior to the start of school? Do ECE students nap during the school day? What is your criteria for accepting a student? As with most independent schools, finding the best fit for your child and your family is key. Best fit for Woodland is determined by the applicant's evaluation data, social synergy with other students in the grade, and parent partnership. Which foreign languages do you offer? Woodland School is proud to offer Spanish to students at all grade levels. What is your homework policy? Students in first through eighth grade will be assigned homework Monday through Thursday, with occasional projects completed during the weekend. In middle school, math homework may be assigned on weekends to reduce the overall homework load. What are the hours of a typical school day? ECE (PS, PK): The Early Childhood program hours are 8:30 am - 3:30 pm Monday through Thursday, and 8:30 a.m. - 2:30 p.m. on Fridays. Lower School (K-4): Lower School program hours are 8:15 am -3:00 pm Monday through Thursday, and 8:15 am - 2:00 pm on Fridays. Middle School (5-8): Middle School program hours are 8:15 am -3:15 pm Monday through Thursday, and 8:15 am - 2:15 pm on Fridays. Do you offer extended day? Yes. Woodland offers extended care beginning at 7:30 am every day before school and after school until 6:00 pm Please visit our Extended Day page for fees. During our Extended Day Program, students have the opportunity to engage in a variety of activities and games, arts and crafts, and building stations, along with amazing optional Enrichment Classes which are available for an additional fee. How often are the students outside? Children spend a lot of time outdoors at Woodland . We are fortunate to be located on 10.5 acres of open land, giving our students access to outdoor space every day during recess, lunch, and physical education. Outdoor classrooms are available for teachers to hold classes. In addition, Early Childhood students (PS, PK) can choose to explore both the indoor and outdoor classroom throughout the day, lower school students (K-4) have an outdoor science garden and middle school students (5-8) also have plenty of fresh air during passing periods to classes.
