Their job is to determine which combination of services provides the required benefits with the least restriction in environment. Nondiscrimination – Federal Law Title VI of the Civil Rights Act of 1964 and Title IX of the Education Amendments of 1972 prohibit discrimination on the basis of race, color, national origin, or sex in federally financed education programs or activities. The District does not discriminate in admission or access to its programs or activities. Any questions or concerns concerning noncompliance can be directed to the Superintendent at 91 Mercedes Lane, Oakley, CA 94561, email the ADA Coordinator , (925) 625-0700, TTY (925) 625-6580 (34 C.F.R. §§ 100.6, 106.9). TRANSITIONAL KINDERGARTEN & KINDERGARTEN ENROLLMENT TRANSITIONAL KINDERGARTEN (TK): Students must be four (4 )years of age on, or before, September 1st, 2026 to attend Transitional Kindergarten in the 2026-2027 school year. (TK) Students that attend TK, will attend Kindergarten the following year. Visit the Transitional Kindergarten Page for more Information . KINDERGARTEN: Students must be five (5) years of age on, or before, September 1st, 2026 to attend Kindergarten in the 2026-2027 school year. The following documentation is required for enrollment in Transitional Kindergarten (TK) or Kindergarten: Current immunization records Birth certificate (Original only, no copies) Two current proofs of residence (utility bills, escrow papers, property tax bill) . If you are unsure which school is your school of residence, you can utilize our interactive attendance boundary map on our District website . 5th to 6th GRADE TRANSITION Delta Vista and O'Hara Park are currently working on a remote option for the 6th Grade Orientation events which typically happen each May. Your school site will be in touch once remote arrangements have been made. Registration: Student's records will automatically move from your Elementary School to your designated Middle School. If you have moved, please provide you updated residency documentation to your student's elementary school at this time, instruction are posted on each Elementary Schools website. Any questions about school boundaries and transfers are addressed on the Enrollment and Transfer webpage. As your student prepares to transition from 5th to 6th grade in OUESD, please continue to address your questions to your current School Principal, your child's 5th grade Teacher, or Office Staff. When to Keep your Student Home from School: It is sometimes difficult to decide when and how long to keep an ill child home from school. A good rule of thumb is that if your child is suffering from any illness that prevents them from feeling well enough to participate in the usual activities and routines, they should not be sent to school. For health and safety purposes, students should not be sent to school if they are showing signs of illness, such as fever, vomiting, diarrhea, nausea, coughing, sore throat, red or draining eyes, or untreated infected skin patches / rashes / bumps. Students with a fever are to be kept home until they are fever free for at least 24 hours, without benefit from a fever – reducing agent. Parents should notify the school office whenever their child is going to be absent from school due to illness or injury. More information is available on the Health Services Page . When to Keep Your Student Home Flyer Guidance for Students who test positive for COVID 19 RSV School Guidance - CCC Health Services IMMUNIZATION REQUIREMENTS: Under state law, all incoming 7th grade students need proof before starting school of a whooping cough booster shot (Tdap), and, starting this year, two doses of chickenpox vaccine. You can visit www.shotsforschool.org for more information on immunizations. Parent Immunization Letter Senate Bill 277 removed the personal belief exemption (PBE) from school immunization requirements. As of January 1, 2016, OUESD cannot accept PBE forms for children entering preschool, kindergarten and 7th grade. More information about immunization requirements (PDF) SAFETY FIRST for ALL Children: The Oakley School District is committed to providing a safe environment for all children at school and at home. One of the easiest ways to prevent an accidental shooting at home or school is to make sure all firearms are properly stored. It is not only the logical, common sense thing to do, but it is now the law. California law holds that an adult may be held criminally liable if a firearm is improperly stored. The state standards in each of the content areas form the backbone of our expectations for student learning. We look at both state tests and classroom assessments to make decisions about student progress. Below is a link to information about the state assessments. Even more important are the classroom assessments which teachers use on a regular basis to inform instruction. We encourage parents and guardians to communicate with your child’s teacher to discuss the results of student assessments. Why do students take these tests? The results will identify where your child is doing well or needs more help, so you can better support their learning at home and teachers can better support their learning in the classroom. How can I help my child? Remind your child that you and their teacher want them to try their best and that you are there to help them every step of the way. Visit the Starting Smarter website to better understand Student Score Reports, review sample questions, and access resources to support your child’s learning. Students that attend Transitional Kindergarten (TK) will attend Kindergarten the following year. Students that have turned five years of age by September 1, 2026, will be enrolled in Kindergarten. What is Transitional Kindergarten (TK)? Transitional Kindergarten (TK) is a bridge between preschool and kindergarten. It provides young learners a head start and the opportunity to learn and grow in an environment that is tailored to meet their academic and social needs. The TK curriculum is a blend of California Common Core Kindergarten standards and the CA Preschool Foundations for five-year old's. The TK program gives students an additional opportunity to continue to build their skills and abilities. Their time in TK will help them to succeed in Kindergarten, become leaders in the classroom, and confidently navigate the school day routine. The TK class provides more opportunities for social-emotional and language development, including mathematics functions through interactive, hands-on activities, which helps students develop and build upon existing skills to be successful in kindergarten, and stimulating classroom centers, which focus on science, mathematics, writing, arts and crafts, community roll play, etc. TK is part of the public school system and is free to participating students. Registration in the program is optional. Students attend the one-year program and the following year begin Kindergarten. Credentialed teachers using the district-adopted curriculum teach Transitional Kindergarten. Teacher Credentialing: TK teachers are required to have a multiple-subject teaching credential, the same credential teachers need for all the elementary grades. In 2023, TK teachers were required to complete an additional 24 units of early childhood education coursework or the equivalent or they will need to hold a Child Development Permit. Transitional Kindergarten is intended to give young learners a head start and provide them with an opportunity to learn and grow in an environment that is tailored to meet their academic and social needs. Teachers help children develop social and communication skills through activities that build confidence while supporting the Traditional Kindergarten curriculum of math, literacy, and language development taught in interactive ways.
