Their goal was to build a clubhouse where they could gather, share tall tales and store their skiffs. The Club began by sponsoring the Snipe Class and becoming one of the original six members of the Yacht Racing Association (YRA). By the end of 1933, the volunteers had leased land and built the first RYC clubhouse at the foot of South Second Street. During the Great Depression, the Club moved to two other locations in the inner harbor. Even with the amazing level of volunteerism required to rebuild the clubhouse, RYC members made time to race, cruise their boats and enjoy family nights, dinners and 50-cent dances with free wine and music. El Toro In the Fall of 1940, RYC members were looking for a boat that would do double duty as a dinghy to get to their moored boats and as a sailing skiff. They found plans for an 8-foot dinghy, the Sabot. They thought it had promise but needed some redesign: a centerboard replaced the leeboards, a rudder replaced the steering oar, and a stick mast replaced the folding mast. With the approval of the Sabot publisher, this boat was now the El Toro, so named because “of all the bull thrown around” during the redesign, and a shovel became the El Toro logo because a bull was too difficult to draw. WWII Then there was World War II. In 1942 the Maritime Commission took over the clubhouse and harbor to build a shipyard, and RYC was forced out. Membership meetings moved to the basement of the Richmond City Hall. The goal of the Club was to have a clubhouse for the service men to come home to, so after the war, the members purchased a portable building and moved it to another temporary location in the parking lot of Boats Inc., where many members already stored their boats. The JIB From its very beginning, RYC published a monthly newsletter. Professionally published with photos and ads, The Flying Jib was printed throughout the war years, serving as important communication to members scattered far and wide. After the war, publishing costs skyrocketed and funds were tight, so The Flying Jib was last issued in December 1947. Its successor soon appeared in June 1948. As member Art Bullfinch noted, “We are going to do what any smart sailor does when the going gets too tough: Shorten Sail! The FLYING JIB goes back into the sail bag . . . and we will carry on with the STORM JIB.” Check out some of the old Flying Jib and Storm Jib newsletters in our Storm Jib Archive . Inclusiveness It is important to note that until the early 50’s, the members of RYC were only men, not women, not families. In the 50’s RYC established official membership classes that included both women and junior/student sailors. It wasn’t until 1999 that spouses became members. Membership was extended to domestic partners in 2011. Permanent Home In the early 60’s short-term renting was too uncertain, so the membership again searched for a site for a permanent home for RYC. They settled on the Club’s current location in Brickyard Cove. RYC completed the purchase of its own property and financed and built a new harbor and clubhouse while continuing to cruise, maintain a great junior program and host a record number of events. It was the determination, spirit and volunteerism of the members that forged through the bureaucracy and the hard work required to build the clubhouse. Signature Regattas The Big Daddy and Great Pumpkin Regattas are staples of RYC’s racing season. Both originated in the 80’s. The Big Daddy began as an IOR regatta opening the racing season; its name honored ”Big Daddy” Bob Klein, twice commodore of the club. The first Great Pumpkin was held a few years later to close the main racing season. It combined a late Fall one-design regatta with the traditional Beachcombers party, creating a very party-oriented end-of-the-year event. Both events continue today with a variety of local, national and sometimes world championship sandwiched in between – and the Small Boat Midwinters bridging the winter season. RYC has hosted many major events, many featuring small boats. 2000 – Olympic Trials for the Finn class; the winner represented the United States in the 2000 Olympics in Atlanta (Savannah). 2001 – Byte North Americans, for which US Sailing awarded RYC the St. Petersburg Trophy for outstanding regatta management for the year. 2004 – Etchells Worlds 2012 – Laser Masters North Americans 2014 – International Canoe Worlds 2018 – International 14 Worlds 2011 and 2019 – US Junior Women’s Single-Handed Championship (Leiter Cup) Additionally, RYC has hosted many national championship regattas. Renovations In the early 2000’s, it became clear that the harbor needed attention. The Club undertook a redesign and complete rebuild of its harbor piers and berths, completed in 2005. Several years later, members noted the clubhouse was showing its age, some of the structures were sagging and major systems were problematic. At the same time, property adjacent to both sides of the club became available for purchase. The land purchases and clubhouse renovation (which required a 6 month move to “the tent” in the harbor) were completed in 2016. Members rallied to find creative ways to develop financing for all three projects, digging deep into their pockets to provide the Club with personal loans to cover the spending. Today Richmond Yacht Club has a long tradition of a hard-working, fun loving membership -- a membership that bands together to find the funds and time to create a place to sail, cruise, learn, host fabulous regattas and events, and above all, have FUN! Upon its formation, Bob gathered a number of his like-minded fellow RYC members together to make up the Foundation’s Board of Directors. From its inception, the exclusive purpose of the Foundation has been to foster amateur national and international yacht racing by assisting in the training and education of amateur sailors for participation in such competition. The primary means for carrying out this mandate is through awarding grants to applying sailors for financial assistance with the often-significant expenses of participating in these events. The funds used to make these grants come from the generous folks who make donations to the Foundation of cash, boats, and saleable nautical gear. Because the Foundation was formed as a California Non-profit Public Benefit Corporation, and because it is designated by the IRS as a 501(c)3 organization, all such donations are tax deductible to the extent allowed by law. Throughout the year, various foundation Board members prepare and sell the donated boats. Donated nautical gear is sold, often with the assistance of other volunteers, at the Foundation annual Gear Sale, held in conjunction with RYC’s Great Pumpkin Regatta in October. The proceeds of these sales, along with cash donations, provide the fuel for the grant engine. 2025 RYC Foundation activity, a report from Buzz Blackett, RYCF president   About Boats For Sale Donations Grant Requests 351 Brickyard Cove Rd. This fund is the “foundation of the Foundation,” built on donations of cash, boats, and saleable nautical gear. Without the support our donors provide to keep this fund alive and healthy, the Foundation cannot do what it exists to do. CASH DONATIONS made directly to the Foundation throughout the year go to the general fund. These donations are best made by check payable to Richmond Yacht Club Foundation, mailed to 351 Brickyard Cove Road, Point Richmond, CA 94801. (We’re working to make digital donations possible in the near future.) DONATED BOATS generate a substantial part of the money flowing into the general fund. To make a gift of a boat, contact one of the Board members whose name and phone number appears on the Boats For Sale page. If your boat meets certain criteria regarding structural soundness, equipment, marketability and title, you will be guided through the donation process and will receive the documents needed to support your charitable deduction when the boat is sold. DONATIONS OF SALEABLE NAUTICAL GEAR will be sold at our annual Gear Sale. To donate such items, please contact a member of our Board to set up a time for us to receive the gear at Richmond Yacht Club. At this time, we are no longer accepting donations of vehicles. Special Account Donations In addition to its general fund, the Foundation has also established a few special accounts for programs, campaigns and projects. Each special account has been created in response to a specific application after the Board has determined that the account is consistent with the Foundation’s charitable purposes. These accounts assist the holder in fundraising since donations to the account are tax deductible. The account holder can then draw on the account for reimbursement of qualifying expenses, which have certain restrictions in order to preserve the tax deductible status of the donations. The accounts that are currently active are described below. If you would like more information concerning a particular account, contact Tim Knowles, RYC Foundation President. To earmark a donation for an account listed, your check payable to the Richmond Yacht Club Foundation should include the phrase “FBO” along with the specific account name in the Memo line ( e.g. “FBO RYC J22 Program”). Pierce Program: This program, created and administered by RYC member and former Junior Program Instructor Merrill Pierce, introduces Richmond elementary school youngsters to the joys of saililng small boats.  STEMsail Program: Organized by RYC member Wayne Koide, this outdoor educational program focuses on young people and uses the concepts of sailing to teach not only the elements of the sport, but also principles of Science, Technology, Engineering and Math (hence “STEM”) with an emphasis on ocean literacy and environmental awareness. To view more information, click  here . J22 Program: Using the J22s owned by the Foundation and loaned to RYC, this program provides young sailors who have previously concentrated on skiff and dinghy sailing with the platform to obtain and hone the specific sailing skills for various forms of racing (e.g., match, team and fleet) that will enable them to be successful in these highly competitive small keelboat events. It also teaches the logistics of preparing for competition and how to maintain the boats. Nash Film Project: A film is being made about the life of renowned sailor Jocelyn Nash. Her achievements in the sport of sailing are significant and inspirational to all sailors, particularly to young women sailors. This remarkable story needs to be preserved. Directed by acclaimed documentary filmmaker Oleg Harencar, “Sailing Set Her Free" will continue to educate and inspire generations of sailors to come. Much work has already been done, see film preview here . This account is ready to receive donations to help see that the project is completed. Sail Training Center at Richmond Yacht Club: This account exists to receive tax deductible donations that will help construct a dedicated Sail Training Center at Richmond Yacht Club to improve the facilities and future sail training programs there, with emphasis on Juniors and Youths. The huge benefit to sailing in general and to youth sailing in particular to be derived from the realization of such a Center is self-evident. The Richmond Yacht Club Foundation is a California Non-profit Public Benefit corporation, designated by the IRS as a 501(c)(3) organization. In 1932 a group of Richmond locals joined forces to form the Richmond Yacht Club. United by a common desire to promote affordable sailing, they built their own boats, sewed their own sails, constructed their own club house, and ran their own races. Over the years, this same do-it-yourself volunteer approach has characterized RYC, always with the primary emphasis on sailing and racing.  Having finally settled at its current site in Brickyard Cove in the 1960s, RYC ‘s location and facilities make it a premier venue for a great variety of yachting activities. Our harbor and dry boat yard are home to many member boats, and our recently renovated clubhouse overlooking San Francisco Bay is ideal for events of all types. The club’s location on the Potrero Reach offers almost immediate access to the Bay and is ideal for both racing and pleasure sailing in boats large and small.  RYC members are active participants in sailing events around the Bay, the country and the world in all manner and size of boats - keelboats, multihulls, dinghies and skiffs. RYC also hosts a variety of racing events that attract sailors from the local area and beyond. These range from weekly “beer cans” races in the summer and monthly small boat midwinters to local, regional, national and often world championship regattas for both keelboats and dinghies.  Another important aspect of RYC is sail training. We began our Junior Program in 1952. Literally thousands of kids have participated in our programs over the years, and for a significant number this has been a springboard to their significant success in national and international sailing competitions.  Our social calendar is full of activities tied to our regattas along with many fun Club events and weekend club dinners. Through the years, activities at RYC echo our motto: THIS CLUB WAS BUILT FOR FUN About Our Story Club Contacts Membership Membership Application Club Information Harbor Visitors Club Calendar Staff Commodores 351 Brickyard Cove Rd. We have additional boats coming into our inventory soon, so keep checking back. (last update: April 14, 2026)         Yamaha 25 - Responsive, Lively, Well Laid Out 1978 Yamaha 25 Mark II  LOA: 24.77’. LWL: 19.25’. Beam: 8.96’.  Draft: 5.40’. Displacement: 3,749 lb. Ballast: 1433 lb. Fin keel. Skeg-hung rudder. This is a responsive boat with an unusually functional layout for her size. There is a large vee berth forward with a privacy curtain, and two spacious quarter berths. There is abundant storage in cabinets and under-cushion spaces. Just aft of the vee berth on starboard is the porta-potty cabinet. Moving further aft there are cushioned seats port and starboard, followed by a table which when folded acts as the nav station but can be unfolded to span the interior beam and become a convenient dining table. To port forward of the quarter berth is the compact galley area with a stainless steel sink with foot-pumped fresh water. The 8-hp Yanmar single-cylinder diesel powers the easily driven hull at 6 knots. The sail inventory is a main, roller furled #2 jib, and spinnaker. She has a handheld VHF in a charging cradle that is active when the boat is plugged into shore power. There is a working Raytheon multi-function display on the cockpit bulkhead. She is well outfitted with winches for sail and spinnaker handling and the control lines leading from the mast base are run under the cabintop, keeping out from under foot. She is well organized inside and out and is a lot of boat for a 25 footer. $2,995. Santana 30 - Old Warhorse, Good Bones 1976 Santana 30, “City Front” -- LOA: 29.92’. LWL: 25.00’. Beam: 10.00’. Draft: 5.00’. Displacement: 8,000 lb. Ballast: 3800 lb. One of the first in a  long line of 30-footers built by W. D. Schock Corp. “City Front” is a masthead sloop with a larger area in the fore triangle (247.65’) than the area of her high aspect ratio mainsail (166.60’), acknowledging the philosophy that the jib is the upwind power sail while the main is for balance.  Her sail inventory includes a main, a roller furled jib, and a spinnaker. She has a running Volvo Penta MD7B 2 cylinder diesel engine. Her interior includes a vee berth forepeak forward of an enclosed head to port and storage locker to starboard. Her main saloon has settees port and starboard with a bulkhead mounted dining table, and 6’ standing headroom. She has a large quarterberth aft to port. Her engine received basic service in the spring of 2025. Her batteries were renewed in 2024. Extensive repair and upgrade work on the standing rigging and mast was done by Easom Rigging in 2021, and the mainsail cover was renewed that same year. “City Front” is still a capable old war horse with good bones and plenty of spirit still left in her, and a bargain at her asking price of $2,995. Pearson 30 - Upgraded Classic 1975 Pearson 30  Rusalka  LOA: 29.79’. LWL: 25.00’. Beam: 9.50’. Draft: 5.00’. Displacement: 8320 lb. Ballast: 3560 lb.  In production for nearly 10 years, with more than 1000 built, this was one of Pearson's most successful models. The hull is solid hand-laid fiberglass. The hull-and-deck joint is fastened with an external flange, glassed over and further secured with a generous quantity of stainless screws. The deck is balsa core sandwiched between fiberglass. The keel, with its lead ballast, is fully encapsulated into the fiberglass hull and coated with resin, so no keel bolts are required. Steering is by a tiller and a scimitar-shaped spade rudder.  Rusalka has a forepeak vee berth, port and starboard settees in the main saloon, and a quarter berth aft on port. The dinette table folds out of the way against the forward saloon bulkhead when not in use. Water is hand pumped at a forward washbasin and at the sink in the galley.  The boat has received numerous recent upgrades including: new saloon fixed port lights (2021); new Airhead compositing toilet (no holding tank, smell, Y valves, etc) (2021); new 30A shore power installation including galvanic isolator, Bluesea panel with ELCI, and Smartplug connector (2021); new Sterling Power ProCharge Ultra battery charger (2021); new batteries, battery boxes and fusing (2023);  new d.c busbars (2022); new a.c. microwave (2023); Converted to LED lighting (2022); new Dyneema lifelines (2023); new manual bilge pump (Whale Gusher 10) (2023); new bilge pump electrical panel and float switch (2022).  An October 2022 haulout at Svendsens Bay Marine included new stainless standing rigging (Hansen Rigging),  new custom spreaders (Ballinger Spars), new chainplates, new bottom paint, closed (glassed in) 2 through hulls  no longer needed due to composting head, cleaned and refurbished mast step, new stainless handholds (deck and inside cabin), and cleaned and refurbished propeller. Her electronics include Garmin 441s color GPSMAP chart plotter; Tacktick wireless windpoint/windspeed (refurbish kit installed 2022), Horizon depth, Horizon speed, Simrad TP20 tiller pilot, Simrad remote control, and VHF radio.  Her sail inventory consists of a main with slab reefing (2 reefs) and a roller furling jib on a Harken Cruising 1 furler (refurbished 2022).  Both sails were checked and refurbished as needed in September, 2022.  She has a Garhaur solid boom vang. Her auxiliary power is an Atomic 4 with aftermarket electronic ignition and Moyer exhaust manifold.  Her Monel fuel tank holds 12 gallons. She has kettle BBQ and, when plugged in, and induction cooker. These boats have a well justified reputation of being sweet sailing, sturdily built vessels that can provide short span family cruising or day sailing with comfortable accommodations for four, as well as $4,500.00 Luders 33 - SOLD SOLD -- 1968 Luders 33 "Northern Star"   PRICE REDUCED -- LOA: 33.00’ LWL: 24.00’  Beam: 10.00’  Draft: 5.00’  Displacement: 12,800 lb. Ballast: 4,500 lb. Built by Allied Yachts in Catskill,  New York, from 1966 through 1974, the Luders 33 was designed by her namesake Bill Luders, who was not only a boatbuilder himself, but also designed such vessels as the 1964 Amercia’s Cup contender, American Eagle, and a fleet of 44’ yawls used for a long time by the US Naval Academy as training and racing platforms. It is said that the Luders 33 is one of the most popular boats of the style designed in the early 1960’s by the likes of Phil Rhodes, Carl Alberg, Olin Stephens, and Ted Hood, having moderate overhangs, modest topside height, full keels, relatively heavy displacement, pleasant sheer lines, and a raised cabin trunk with large windows providing good headroom, light, and cockpit protection.  Northern Star, with her graceful lines and dark hull, is a head turner. She's good looking below as well. She has a vee-berth cabin forward. Just aft to port is the marine head with holding tank. We now have a Club Manager, office staff, bar & galley staff, a Harbormaster and a Youth Training Director. Major construction and maintenance are now done by professionals. However, out volunteer effort is still essential. Our social events are run by volunteers, the Junior Program is run by volunteers, our races are all managed by volunteers, and through our Board of Directors and committees, all aspects of RYC operations are overseen by members. This makes a very significant contribution to RYC’s financial health while also enhancing the spirit and sense of “family” at the club. On Shore The RYC Events Committee hosts the parties and social events that happen off the water. If you enjoy socializing or throwing a party, please reach out to the Events Committee and offer your help. It’s a great way to get to know your fellow members. No experience is necessary. Some areas you might work on are set-up, decorating, T-shirt sales for regattas and flower arranging. If you are interested in helping with a specific upcoming on shore event, please go to the specific calendar event on our website. You can see our upcoming on shore events on the Club Events page. Click on any of them to get more details and to get access to the Volunteer button. We also ask you to create and maintain a volunteer profile so we can search the database and find you when we have a specific need.  Please go to the Volunteer Portal to create your volunteer profile, sign up for events, or ask for your upcoming shoreside event to be added to the calendar.   On the Water Our racing programs always need volunteers. Many of these jobs provide an opportunity to get out on the water, and prior experience is not necessary. There are always jobs on shore as well, such as helping with scoring, lunches, and check-in. For more details about volunteering for race committee, click here . Dinghy sailors can help Richmond Yacht Club reach out to the local community. Each March, RYC hosts a “Sail a Small Boat Day” where members lend their small boats and expertise by giving free rides to sailors and non-sailors, young and old. To learn more, email [email protected] . Committees The next level of commitment for an RYC member is to join a standing committee. Committees are the backbone of RYC, tasked with ensuring that the Club runs smoothly. Most committees meet once a month. For more information, members should go to our Committee page  for a description of each committee’s role and current contact. There are three major areas of event race committee activities, all overseen by the Regatta Chairperson and/or the Principal Race Officer (PRO): Race Committee Signal Boat – Races are run and managed from the signal boat, normally RYC’s Pelican. Headed by the Principal Race Officer, this team includes the timer, signals, sounds, and recorders. This team oversees the set-up of the course, the schedule of races, communications with the racers, and recording the starts and finishes. Support Boats – The support boat teams are responsible for setting up the marks of the course and adjusting these as necessary for changing wind conditions. They are also important to the safe running of races, responding to assist any racers that may have an issue on the water. On Shore – Land-based responsibilities typically include setting up race equipment, competitor check-in, and helping with lunches for the volunteers and scoring. At large regattas volunteers also oversee such activities as regatta meals, entertainment, and regatta merchandise. Participating on a Race Committee is a great way to meet other members and to learn and expand your knowledge of sailboat racing. The easiest way to volunteer for a specific event is to click on the volunteer link on the particular racing calendar page.  This will inform the Regatta Chair or PRO of your interest. You don’t have to be a member of RYC to volunteer for race committee.  The PRO will reach out to you in advance of the race. The Race Calendar is available as a list on the Racing page and you can get to any race calendar event from there. You are also encouraged to create and maintain a volunteer profile so we can search the database and find you when we have a need.  Please go to the Volunteer Portal to create your volunteer profile, sign up for events or ask for your upcoming regatta to be added to the calendar. We appreciate your help and look forward to working with you! A gift from the Global Data Registry

When the Global Data Registry crawled http://www.richmondyc.org/, we found no structured data — the language AI systems use to understand and describe a business online.

Schema is how ChatGPT, Google, Claude, Gemini, and Perplexity know what your business does and how to describe you accurately to your customers. Without it, AI systems are guessing.

The most important field in this block is sameAs — a verified edge connecting your website to your permanent record at the Global Data Registry. This is a free, confirmed link to a real verified source. It costs nothing and gives your website a confirmed node in the graph that AI systems traverse when building answers about your business.

Copy the block below and paste it into the <head> of your website. Or drop it into ChatGPT, Claude, or Gemini and ask it to extend it with your full business details — that is the fastest path to a complete schema record.

▶   What is schema?

Schema is a standard vocabulary maintained at schema.org that lets websites describe themselves in a language machines can read. When you add schema to your website, you are telling AI systems, search engines, and knowledge graphs exactly what your business is and how it connects to the rest of the web.
