Last week was Teacher Appreciation Week, but did you know that today is California Day of the Teacher? The day was established through legislation in 1982, inspired by the tradition of “El Día del Maestro” celebrated in Mexico and other Latin American countries.
We thank our teachers for their work and dedication, and we never forget that teaching is the profession that creates all other professions. #thanksteachers #californiadayoftheteacher #SCESDShines

Wait—there's more celebrating! It's National Teacher Appreciation Week, and we want to thank our amazing classroom teachers and certificated staff for all they do on behalf of student achievement. From teaching students how to read, to guiding them in developing strong critical thinking skills, our educators inspire curiosity, build confidence, and open doors to endless possibilities every single day.
Their dedication, creativity, and unwavering commitment make a lasting difference not only in the classroom, but in the lives of every student they serve. Today and every day, we celebrate the passion and heart our teachers bring to their work.
Thank you for shaping futures, empowering minds, and making our schools stronger. #teacherappreciationweek

This week we proudly recognize and celebrate the incredible classified employees of Salinas City Elementary School District. From office staff, instructional aides, custodians, bus drivers, nutrition services teams, maintenance crews, technology staff, and so many others, their hard work keeps the schools running smoothly every single day.
Their dedication, kindness, and commitment create safe, welcoming, and supportive environments where our students can learn and thrive.
Thank you for the countless ways you support our students, staff, and families behind the scenes and on the front lines. Your impact is felt in every classroom, every campus, and every child’s success.
We appreciate you today and every day!

Last week, first grade students in the class of Ms. Julietta Morga at Los Padres received their regular monthly visit from the Kiwanis Literacy Club of Salinas. Comprising mostly retired educators, the club's members bring books for students, read to them and help ignite a love of literacy as well.
But last week was a special visit—the club delivered its 10,000th book, El león y el ratón/The Lion and the Mouse. Each student received a copy to take home.
And when the students opened their copies, Melina found she had the 10,000th one!
"When kids have their own library at home, they are going to be better readers," Clifford Gilkey, a retired teacher who's in charge of buying books for students for the Kiwanis Club, told Monterey County Weekly reporter Celia Jimenez, who was on hand for the event.
To read her story, use the QR code on the last slide. #readingiscool #earlyliteracy #books

Today we celebrate our School Lunch Heroes—the caring Food Services professionals who nourish students daily with healthy meals, warm smiles, and dedication that helps every child learn and thrive. It takes an army to feed more than 8,000 students every day, and we appreciate the army we have!

The District's Pupil Services team just held its first-ever running of the inflatables--a reward for the school (Los Padres!) that had the best attendance during the recent Attendance Madness: Attendance Power Week event.
All inflatables are good inflatables, Bront. (first to comment what the reference is from wins a fancy coffee!) #scesdshines
