We provide a snapshot across four key areas: Our North Star, What We Fund, Collaboration is Key, and Trust-based Philanthropy. Our North Star What We Fund Collaboration is Key Trust-Based Philanthropy   We want to be clear about where we are hitting the mark and where we are missing it. We regularly collect data and analyze our grantmaking portfolio to hold ourselves accountable to our values and aspirations. We disaggregate the information by race/ethnicity, geography, organization size, and strategy to promote a deeper understanding of impact. We have also implemented a grantee perception survey, which allows partners to provide meaningful feedback. Unless noted otherwise, the data below reflects the period July 1, 2024 – June 30, 2025. We hope this data dashboard will provide helpful context and accountability with our grantees, partners, and funders. Our North Star SFF is committed to racial equity and economic inclusion Policies and systems have created barriers for low-income people of color when it comes to housing, education, criminal justice, jobs, and civic participation. We focus our work through interconnected pathways: People, Place, Power, and Policy & Innovation. For each, we list the funding amount and the number of organizations supported. We also fund a range of cross-pathway strategies. Below you will see the top four strategies by funding amount. Our strategic focus of this agenda is on a just and equitable recovery and on leading the way for our communities, partners, and staff to engage in radical reimagining and transformative solidarity to create a better reality for all. With a community-driven vision for a more equitable and just Bay Area, we can continue to dismantle the old systems and rebuild them anew. We know this will be a continuous learning experience, but one with a very clear goal — to make the Bay Area a place that offers true opportunity for everybody. Click on the sections below to learn about the ways we focus on our equity agenda through our work. Grantmaking to Advance Racial Equity We have intentionally prioritized race and socioeconomic status in our grantmaking because our policies and systems have created barriers for low-income people of color when it comes to housing, education, criminal justice, jobs, and civic participation. The future of the Bay Area depends on our ability to ensure that everyone can participate, prosper, and reach their full potential. These interconnected strategies — building power, creating financial well-being, and preserving communities — work together to make our region more equitable, healthier, happier, and more prosperous. Our equity grantmaking is structured under these interconnected focus areas: People grantmaking focus Place grantmaking focus Power grantmaking focus Policy & Innovation Watch video of our Chief Impact Officer, Judith Bell talking about our equity grantmaking that was introduced in 2016 and continues to be our north star today. All In On Housing At SFF, we are working to build a Bay Area where people of all races and backgrounds can thrive in safe, affordable, and vibrant communities. We cannot make meaningful progress toward equity and inclusive prosperity without addressing the region’s affordable housing crisis. That is why SFF is all-in on housing. Collaboratives Together with our partners, the San Francisco Foundation is tackling challenges to housing, employment, access to transit, and civic participation in the Bay Area. These collaborative efforts allow funders, donors, government agencies, and community organizations to pool resources and expertise to create large-scale, long-term solutions to these challenges. Each of these initiatives advances our goal of creating a more equitable region where everyone has what they need to thrive. Funding Opportunities We offer a range of funding opportunities for nonprofits (or fiscally sponsored organizations) in the five Bay Area counties. Leadership Programs and Awards The San Francisco Foundation has responded to the challenges and opportunities of the Bay Area for more than 70 years. In that time, we have developed lasting partnerships across communities and invested in long-term transformative work of community leaders and up and coming leaders in neighborhoods throughout the region. These commitments are lived out in the following programs that are integral to the vision of equity in the Bay Area. Art Programs and Awards The foundation is proud to bestow a variety of awards in literature, visual arts, film/video and playwriting that help foster innovation and individual artistic growth within our community. Investments Through our investments, we advance racial equity and economic inclusion by allocating capital to communities of color and managing our capital through an increasingly diverse set of asset managers. We invest our assets in alignment with our values and with the long-term goal of generating strong investment results. A safe place to sleep, a nature program, and after school music classes for underserved youth — these programs and many others have all been funded by donors whose vision and generosity will live on in a vibrant, inclusive Bay Area. Since 1948, we have worked hand-in-hand with individuals and families to create charitable legacies that provide lasting support for causes in the Bay Area and beyond. Drawing on our philanthropic, tax and legal expertise, we will help you design a flexible giving strategy and timeline that works in tandem with the estate planning process. A variety of planning options exist to meet your financial planning needs and charitable vision. Click on the sections below for more Estate Planning information. Future Gifts Bequest by will or trust : You may name the San Francisco Foundation and leave a specific sum of money, a percentage of your estate, or what remains after other bequests have been satisfied. Whether designated or unrestricted, the foundation can work with you to create a lasting legacy. Download our sample bequest language to provide to your attorney. Retirement plan assets : Having assets in your IRA or other qualified retirement plans naming the San Francisco Foundation is a simple and effective way to benefit the community while avoiding significant, often unanticipated taxes. Using retirement plan assets to fulfill your charitable legacy can be far more advantageous than including assets in your taxable estate or leaving them to heirs, which may be heavily taxed. You may designate that after your death, assets remaining in the plan are to be contributed to a fund at the foundation, and no estate tax or income tax is due on the retirement assets that pass to the foundation. Life insurance policies : Another simple asset to give is a gift of life insurance. Option 1: Name the San Francisco Foundation as a full-benefit or partial beneficiary and your estate may receive a charitable deduction from estate taxes. Option 2: Give a paid-up policy outright. We accept gifts of existing life insurance policies that have cash value and no outstanding loans again the policy. You may receive a charitable deduction for a portion of the face value of the policy. Gifts That Provide Income Charitable remainder trusts : Giving through a charitable remainder trust allows you to receive income for the life of the trust, with the remainder to the foundation to distribute according to your charitable goals. A charitable remainder unitrust is an irrevocable trust set up to pay a variable income to you or your named beneficiaries for life or for a fixed term not exceeding 20 years, or a combination of the two. You receive an income tax deduction for the present value of the gift the year the trust is funded. If selected as Trustee, the foundation invests and manages the trust, and when the trust term terminates, the foundation uses the remaining assets to establish a fund or adds them to an existing fund at the foundation. A charitable remainder annuity trust is the same as the charitable remainder unitrust except that it is set up to pay a fixed income rather than a variable income. See the Charitable remainder trusts fact sheet for more detail. Charitable gift annuity : A charitable gift annuity (CGA) is a simple contract that gives you the security of guaranteed income for life. Your annual income from this contract is a simple calculation using the gift amount and the rate based on your age. And you receive a charitable deduction for a portion of your gift. Find your payout rate at the American Council on Gift Annuities rate tables . Don’t need the income right now? You can defer the payments until a future date and you will have receive a higher payout rate and larger charitable deduction. San Francisco Foundation works with a trusted partner, the National Gift Annuity Foundation , to administer these gifts. Future Funds A Future Fund is a fund that will be set up once an estate gift is received. The fund will be administered according to the fund agreement that has been completed during your lifetime and if you have changes to make, simply contact us to complete an amendment without also needing to update your estate plans. See the Future Funds fact sheet for more detail. Additional Giving Options Qualified Charitable Distribution from your IRA: A qualified charitable distribution is a unique federal provision allows anyone 70.5 years or older to make an outright gift directly from their IRA to The San Francisco Foundation or other favorite charitable organizations of up to $105,000 for 2024, without paying income tax on the distribution. See our Detailed Giving Instructions for more information. Charitable lead trust : A charitable lead trust enables you to make a significant charitable gift now while transferring substantial assets to beneficiaries later. To use this giving option, a trust is setup that distributes annual payments to the foundation for a specific number of years. Trust distributions go first to your fund here at the foundation, and then on to charities you specify. When the trust terminates, the remaining principal is returned to you, or more typically, your children or other loved ones at reduced tax cost or tax-free. Retained life estate : Your home, one of your most valued possessions, can become a meaningful gift to the San Francisco Foundation— even while you are still living in it, and even if you want your spouse or other survivor to live there for life. In this arrangement, you enjoy the property as long as you like while giving future ownership to the foundation. You receive an income tax deduction the year the contribution is arranged through the irrevocable gift of the “remainder interest”, and proceeds from the sale go to establish or add to a fund here at the foundation. Growing up, there weren’t a lot of extra resources to go around, but I did grow up with a deep understanding that you show up for your community however you can. When my wife, Susan, and I graduated from college, we started making small donations to organizations we cared about. It wasn’t much, but it felt important to take some action and to be a part of something bigger than just ourselves. When our children were young, Susan and I started working with St. Mark’s Episcopal Church in Berkeley and their Hot Meals for the Hungry Program. We were the team leads and part of a network of faith-based groups preparing and serving meals to neighbors experiencing hunger and homelessness. That’s what got us connected to the Berkeley Food and Housing Project, now known as Insight Housing , where I’ve been a board member since 2023. I have been fortunate in so many ways, and I believe in passing that on. Being a donor is a way of living out my values and helping others access those same opportunities that made such a difference in my life. How has your journey as a philanthropist evolved based on what you’ve learned from your work and from your giving? Do you have any short- or long-term goals for your philanthropy? It wasn’t until I began serving on the board of Insight Housing that I understood the real impact that philanthropy could make. From the time we started volunteering with the meals program to today, Insight Housing has expanded its services dramatically, now serving seven counties, including San Francisco. Over the years, I’ve felt honored to be a part of that growth, both as a board leader and a supporter. My donations, both toward capital needs and unrestricted funds, have helped strengthen the organization’s infrastructure on many levels, enabling Insight Housing to scale up its housing and services and support more individuals on their path to housing and stability. It is not just getting individuals off the streets but also advocating for local and state governments to provide more affordable housing as a long-term solution. Insight Housing is now in the business of developing and building affordable housing to meet this desperate need in seven Northern California counties. My goal as a donor is always to help now and help for the long run. To alleviate pain and suffering today and invest in long-term strategies that create lasting opportunity and well-being. Many donors come to SFF because they are particularly attuned to how they can serve folks who have been pushed to the margins of our community. What is something you’ve learned through your work – or through your giving – that you wish others in our donor community better understood? I’ve learned that it’s easy to focus on the most visible symptoms of a crisis, but the real work happens when we invest in addressing root causes. I wish more donors could see how meaningful it is to fund long-term, holistic solutions, even when the results aren’t immediate. Like many of the donors in SFF’s donor community, the impact that you’re having in our community goes far beyond just the dollars you give. Tell us a bit about the other work you’re doing in the community. Susan and I have always believed that meaningful philanthropy includes both time and resources. My long-standing involvement with Insight Housing continues today through my board service and my volunteer work at the Hope Center, where I help prepare and serve meals for the Community Meal program. Susan worked for many years as a librarian and now serves on five boards focused on education, civic engagement, and community well-being. Giving back has always been a part of who we are as a family. Categories:   Donor Stories Tags:   Equity ,   Housing ,   Philanthropy San Francisco Foundation Filter by... You may wish to allocate a portion of your DAF to our Mission-Aligned Investments Pool, which is comprised of a diversified portfolio of managers using a variety of impact investment and socially-responsible strategies, including social screens and Environmental, Social and Governance (ESG) considerations. Donors can also participate in our Bay Area Community Impact Fund by making a program-related investment (PRI) from their DAF to enable the foundation to make loans to local nonprofit organizations and social enterprises. I knew that I wanted the funds in my DAF to be put to work for historically marginalized communities in the City, but I didn’t know how to start. I’m a white donor and can’t always see where my own perspective and experiences limit the possibilities – not only of where the money from my DAF goes, but how I support and build community with the folks of color in San Francisco doing really powerful work. [The workshop] connected me with important ideas about how my DAF can make a difference, helped me to see how I can change my own behaviors, and put me in contact with other donors who are trying to affect change, too. In that time, we have developed lasting partnerships across communities and invested in long-term transformative work of community leaders and up and coming leaders in neighborhoods throughout the region. These commitments are lived out in the following programs that are integral to the vision of equity in the Bay Area. Community Leadership Awards Since 1963, the San Francisco Foundation’s Community Leadership Awards have honored individuals and nonprofit organizations doing extraordinary work to address the Bay Area’s most pressing challenges. The awards are designed to advance community-driven, innovative, and sustainable solutions to critical issues facing the Bay Area. FAITHS The faith community has historically been at the forefront of advocating for racial and economic equity, and it remains a crucial voice today. In 1993, the San Francisco Foundation created the Foundation Alliance with Interfaith to Heal Society, best known and regarded as the FAITHS program. This nationally-recognized program enhances the work of faith-based organizations to organize and advocate for equitable policies and improve community services in their neighborhoods and collectively for the region. Koshland Program Each year, the Koshland awards program recognizes up to 12 Bay Area neighborhood leaders of a particular community and makes a five-year $300,000 investment in that neighborhood. As a result of the fellowship, many of the projects created by Koshland Fellows, have become institutions or programs that still support communities to this day. Following the leadership training, the fellows work together to create a comprehensive vision and a plan for what they will achieve in the community. Once the vision is agreed upon by the fellows, they will start investing in the project. Koshland Young Leader Awards The Koshland Young Leader Awards recognize the next generation of leadership in our community, providing a one-year award of $10,000 to outstanding San Francisco public high school juniors who balance extraordinary family, economic and societal pressures with the discipline required for academic excellence and the drive to succeed at community leadership. Multicultural Fellowship Program The Foundation’s two-year philanthropic leadership development program. The fellowship equips emerging leaders of color with the experience, knowledge, and network within the power structure of philanthropy to increase racial equity and economic inclusion in the Bay Area. For more than 30 years, the Multicultural Fellowship has been a career accelerator for leaders who are motivated, creative agents of change. The fellows’ experiences and perspectives shape, influence , and challenge the foundation’s work as well. Fellows have developed new initiatives, strengthened the approach of the work of the foundation, and brought experiences in that too often are unheard in philanthropy. The Women of Color, Women of Power Program In partnership with Leaderspring, the Women of Color, Women of Power program is designed to support women of color to move into positions of decision-making power and access to resources while building community power. Bay Area women-of-color leaders will be selected to participate in a year-long training and coaching program focused on racial equity and systems change. As part of a cohort, they will also build strong ties with other rising women-of-color leaders, and this professional network will continue to expand as ongoing cohorts graduate and join. Compensation Philosophy San Francisco Foundation is committed to paying its employees competitively in a way that reflects responsible stewardship of the foundation’s financial assets and complies with existing laws and regulations. We acknowledge and recognize the lived realities of balancing our equity agenda with working in a capitalist system. SFF is committed to equitable compensation, both when determining base salary adjustments and when hiring new staff: SFF uses a salary structure and job classifications as the framework that guides pay decisions. To combat structural pay inequities, we practice negotiation-free salary processes with individual candidates and staff members. For initial pay decisions, SFF does not consider tenure or credentials outside of the job description requirements. We assume that an employee’s tenure, experience, and/or education are a means of acquiring skills, which in turn result in both job qualifications and performance outcomes and achievement. The foundation is committed to paying no less than the San Francisco living wage at the time of the pay structure implementation/adjustment for a single person in a full-time equivalent position. Exceptions may include paid interns. Working at SFF Our employee life cycle model is used to identify and express the most important stages that an employee goes through as you engage with the foundation. I moved to San Francisco almost 40 years ago, and I was immediately drawn to the city’s incredible diversity – the mix of people, cultures, and art. But a big part of what drew me here, even back then, was the opportunity for volunteer work, which has always been a core part of my life. I’ve proudly called the Bay Area home ever since. For me, being a philanthropist or a “donor” isn’t a separate identity; it’s just an extension of being a community member. It’s about investing in the place that has given me so much. How has your philanthropic journey evolved, and what role does the foundation play? When I was looking to be more structured with my giving, the San Francisco Foundation was a natural fit (I have been on staff at the foundation for 10 years and am now COO ). It’s a cornerstone of the Bay Area, and its values match my own commitment to making a difference locally. Honestly, the biggest change in giving via an SFF Donor Advised Fund (DAF) wasn’t what I had expected – not simply the administrative ease of having all my giving checks and receipts streamlined. Rather, establishing the DAF here freed me up to be more thoughtful and effective – so the time I’m spending on my giving is about the impact rather than the logistics. A bonus is that I’ve valued new insight and empathy for how SFF can serve donors, seeing the donor experience from both sides now! What I value most is being part of this donor community. The guidance from the Philanthropic Services team and the connection to other donors makes me feel like I’m part of a supportive network, which is much more inspiring than just managing grants on my own. Your impact goes beyond just the dollars you give. Tell us about the other work you’re doing. A few years ago, I went to an open house at Big Brothers Big Sisters of the Bay Area (BBBS), and it changed my perspective. The CEO, Lillian Samuels, shared this inspiring message about being part of something greater than oneself, helping young people realize their potential, one relationship at a time. It hit me immediately: I had to get involved. I became a mentor and now help with fundraising. The message I share with others is just how critical that simple, one-on-one connection is. Research shows that youth with consistent mentors are far more likely to finish their education and be prepared for their careers. The impact is so direct and personal. I’m deeply committed to BBBS and always encourage others to consider volunteering or contributing if they can. I’m also a longtime supporter of Southern Exposure , which has been a vital part of our visual arts community for decades.     Categories:   Donor Stories Tags:   Equity ,   Inclusion ,   Philanthropy ,   Youth San Francisco Foundation Filter by... These funds provide flexible grantmaking support to organizations advancing the work you care about. The team of experts at SFF will make grants from these funds to local nonprofits, so together we can fulfill the promise of the Bay Area.   Field of Interest Funds Advancing Racial Equity Racial equity and economic inclusion are SFF’s north star. This fund supports criminal justice reform, reparations work, economic security & wealth building, and health & wellness for communities of color across the region. Supporting Culturally Vibrant Communities Arts & culture institutions are critical to the fabric of the community, and through this fund, together we can ensure their sustainability and resiliency. This fund will support nonprofits in the arts & culture sector throughout the Bay Area. Ensuring an Environmentally Sustainable Bay Area Environmental equity, a changing climate, and its impacts on the region will continue to affect all who call the Bay Area home. Through this fund, together we can support environmental justice and education, centering our communities most vulnerable to climate change. Ensuring Housing for All One of the most pressing issues facing the Bay Area at this current moment, this fund will help SFF continue to scale our impact in housing and homelessness. Empowering Community Voices for a Stronger Democracy With democracy under attack, we must act now to ensure that all voices in our community are empowered. No matter the population – women, immigrant communities, LGBTQ2SIA+, and many others – supporting this fund ensures that all members of our society in the Bay Area can exercise their political voice. Creating Opportunities Through Education Whether through traditional education pathways or workforce development programs, this fund provides support for nonprofits that are striving to provide quality education and opportunities for all. Leading for a Stronger Bay Area The Bay Area Leads Fund provides flexible support for SFF to harness the power of our community to address the most pressing issues of our time. Through this fund, SFF is able to launch innovative initiatives, convene stakeholders to address key issues like affordable housing, and do the work to change systems at scale.   How do field of interest funds work? You can contribute to one or more field of interest funds in two ways: either by making a gift for current use, or by including a fund in your legacy plan. Legacy field of interest funds are part of SFF’s endowment. Each year, our expert team of grantmakers will distribute grants to nonprofits in the designated areas. As a donor to a field of interest fund, you will receive updates on the nonprofits supported by the fund and have opportunities to engage with other donors who share your philanthropic interests.   How to give to a field of interest fund You can contribute to a current use field of interest fund through your DAF, or by using the donation form below, or by emailing [email protected] . If you are interested in including a field of interest fund in your estate plans, please email [email protected] . A Qualified Charitable Distribution (QCD) gift to one of the Field of Interest Funds is a great way to make a tax-wise gift in support of the issues you are passionate about. QCDs are allowable for anyone 70 ½ or older. Please see our  Detailed Giving Instructions  for more detail. We have intentionally prioritized race and socioeconomic status in our grantmaking because our policies and systems have created barriers for low-income people of color when it comes to housing, education, criminal justice, jobs, and civic participation. The future of the Bay Area depends on our ability to ensure that everyone can participate, prosper, and reach their full potential. These interconnected strategies — building power, creating financial well-being, and preserving communities — work together to make our region more equitable, healthier, happier, and more prosperous. Our equity grantmaking is structured under these interconnected focus areas: People grantmaking focus Ensuring economic security and opportunity for all in the Bay Area. We believe that all Bay Area residents should be able to make a good living and build long-term financial well-being for their families and communities. We support nonprofits that create just laws and practices, build worker power, and build community wealth. It was a year that tested each and every one of us. We faced a volatile political climate, threats to our civil liberties, and uncertainty around every corner. But if there is one thing I learned this year, it’s that the antidote to fear isn’t silence. The antidote is community and action. Looking back on these past 12 months, I don’t just see the challenges. I see a community that refused to back down. I see our staff, our partners, and our donors leaning into each other, and transforming fear into organized, strategic power. Holding Strong to Our Values We didn’t just talk about doubling down this year; we went into action. Because of the trust and generosity of our donors, we were able to move fast to meet the unprecedented needs in our community: In April, our Board of Trustees took a bold step by allocating an additional $15 million from our endowment to help our community not just survive, but lead. In June, we sponsored and marched at SF Pride when so many corporations backed out. In September, we launched the $10 million Stand Together Bay Area Fund to help our immigrant neighbors stay in their homes and feed their families. With our donors, we granted emergency support to arts organizations, food banks, and KQED when they experienced sudden cuts or freezes to federal funding. And that’s just a small fraction of all that we did this year. Check out our 2025 Annual Report to see the many other ways that we stepped up. Making More Possible To make a lasting difference in this region, we need to understand that we’re now in a new era. To be more effective—to do more good—we need to change how we work. We need to be more sustainable, scalable, and focused on deep community connections. Our commitment to racial equity and social justice remains the core of everything we do. We will continue to support our community partners, steward our donors’ generosity, and fight for a Bay Area where everyone can thrive. I am ending 2025 with a profound sense of gratitude. To the donors who trusted us, the partners who fought alongside us, and the staff and community who worked tirelessly: thank you. The problems we face are my generation’s moment. If this year taught me anything, it’s that courage is contagious. When we stand together—rooted in love and equity—we don’t just weather the storm: We change the forecast. EyesOnOpenAI – a coalition that SFF helps lead – commended California Attorney General Bonta for listening to our concerns and demonstrating a commitment to enforcing fiduciary duties and addressing conflicts of interest. However, the coalition has ongoing concerns about the lack of nonprofit independence and how OpenAI’s assets were valued. Read news coverage of the announcement below: TIME: A Timeline of the Battle for OpenAI: Musk, Altman, and the For-Profit Shift After almost a year of negotiations, OpenAI announced Tuesday that it has completed its restructure to a public benefit corporation, with a separate nonprofit Foundation focused on “health and curing diseases” and “technical solutions to AI resilience” holding a $130 billion stake in the for-profit arm—just shy of the $135 billion stake that Microsoft received, which it said represented 27% ownership. Politico: OpenAI gets green light from California for multibillion-dollar makeover, but still faces hurdles ChatGPT maker OpenAI announced a major victory on Tuesday, gaining the blessing of the attorneys general in California and Delaware to complete its controversial, multi-billion dollar business restructuring after months of intense public scrutiny. […] “We have been clear and consistent in our requests of the attorney general – a fair and independent valuation of the assets accumulated under the nonprofit and independent governance of those assets,” said Judith Bell, the chief impact officer at the San Francisco Foundation, in a statement. San Francisco Examiner: OpenAI restructuring marks seismic shift in industry landscape OpenAI has completed its corporate restructuring effort, deeply disappointing consumer and community advocates who hoped for stronger controls on its governance and operation — or to force it to give its billions of dollars in charitable assets to an independent entity. Cal Matters: OpenAI just cut a deal with California. Critics say it’s full of holes OpenAI said Tuesday it would restructure as a for-profit company in a way that addresses concerns from California Attorney General Rob Bonta, who signed off on the transformation. But details of the move could revive worries that OpenAI is misusing charitable tax exemptions, experts and advocates told CalMatters. The ChatGPT maker is putting its nonprofit arm nominally in control of the for-profit entity, but there are numerous ways the for-profit company could end up calling the shots, these people said. There are also important, unanswered questions about the safeguards that are supposed to keep that from happening. By opening a nonprofit agency fund with the San Francisco Foundation, you can create a fund that is restricted for your benefit to support your operations and programs — over time or in perpetuity. Establishing an agency fund at SFF allows you to focus on your core mission while SFF takes care of the administration and offers top-notch investment management. In addition, you are partnering with a trusted philanthropic organization that is dedicated to the Bay Area and the nonprofit organizations that help the region thrive. Nonprofit Fund Types Agency Endowed Fund: a fund established by a nonprofit that wants to protect long-term assets while receiving annual distributions to support its mission. (Amount is based on SFF’s spending policy.) The fund is invested with the foundation’s endowment pool to provide sustaining support. It is best for partners that want or need to (based on donor intent) limit access to a portion of fund earnings only and preserve fund principal for the long-term. Agency Non-Endowed Fund: a fund established by a nonprofit that wants to protect medium- to long-term assets, while retaining the discretion to take distributions as needed to support its mission. The fund can be invested in one (or more) of the foundation’s three investment pools to generate growth over time. The fund can be treated as a “quasi-endowment” based on a spending budget set by the organization, though distributions back to the organization may be requested in any amount, providing the nonprofit with maximum flexibility. That’s why we invest our assets in alignment with our values and with the long-term goal of generating strong investment results. We’re proud to offer a new Mission-Aligned Investments Pool, which uses a variety of socially responsible and impact investment strategies that support our commitment to racial equity and economic inclusion, whether by investing in firms led by women and people of color, who have historically faced barriers accessing capital, or by investing in companies whose work directly aligns with our commitment to equity. As a foundation donor, you gain access to top-tier investment managers who generate exceptional returns, as well as the guidance of an industry-leading investment consultant and our Investment Committee . Diversity of our managers is a core consideration of our Investment Committee. More than 35 percent of our assets are invested by firms owned by women and people of color. Investment Portfolios and Objectives Donors have access to four investment portfolios to meet your grantmaking objectives. We set high standards for each portfolio, using institutional asset managers. We consider environmental, social and governance factors across all of our portfolios, which we believe contributes to strong performance. The portfolios’ asset allocation, risk and performance are closely monitored by our consultant, Investment Committee and staff. A gift from the Global Data Registry

When the Global Data Registry crawled http://www.sff.org/, we found no structured data — the language AI systems use to understand and describe a business online.

Schema is how ChatGPT, Google, Claude, Gemini, and Perplexity know what your business does and how to describe you accurately to your customers. Without it, AI systems are guessing.

The most important field in this block is sameAs — a verified edge connecting your website to your permanent record at the Global Data Registry. This is a free, confirmed link to a real verified source. It costs nothing and gives your website a confirmed node in the graph that AI systems traverse when building answers about your business.

Copy the block below and paste it into the <head> of your website. Or drop it into ChatGPT, Claude, or Gemini and ask it to extend it with your full business details — that is the fastest path to a complete schema record.

▶   What is schema?

Schema is a standard vocabulary maintained at schema.org that lets websites describe themselves in a language machines can read. When you add schema to your website, you are telling AI systems, search engines, and knowledge graphs exactly what your business is and how it connects to the rest of the web.
