Desirable communities, such as Temecula, possess a wide range of housing opportunities, quality schools, efficient transportation networks, parks and accessible open space, a variety of shopping and entertainment opportunities, cultural arts, accessibility to high speed telecommunications, excellent healthcare, and institutions of higher learning. Temecula’s residents have expressed a strong desire to be able to live and work in Temecula, and to have more diverse and well-paying jobs available. They also want their children to be able to find meaningful work and affordable housing so they too can live and work in Temecula as they become young adults. Echoing residents’ concern for their children’s future job opportunities, the Blue Ribbon Committee highlighted the need to foster the Career Technical Education (CTE) system in the community. Temecula was fortunate that Mt. San Jacinto College (MSJC) acquired the former Abbott office campus. The new MSJC Temecula campus has further expansion potential and opportunities to merge CTE curriculums at the high schools with MSJC programs to provide local students the opportunities to train for vocational jobs in Temecula. Further coordination with CSU San Marcos will also help to extend these workforce training and education opportunities to the four year degree level. The City is especially interested in fostering entrepreneurial opportunities. The Temecula Valley Entrepreneur’s Exchange (TVE2) is a business incubator and regional resource center managed by the City’s Economic Development Division that fosters business growth and economic vitality for entrepreneurs and early stage companies by providing access to low cost commercial space, technology, high quality resources, and leveraging a strong network of community partners located at the TVE2, including the Small Business Development Center (SBDC), the Economic Development Coalition (EDC), and Riverside County Workforce Development. Residents closely associate the presence of independent, locally-owned businesses with the City’s cherished small town atmosphere and the TVE2 is actively supporting new start-up small businesses to succeed in Temecula. Temecula features a number of strong business sectors that offer a wide range of job opportunities, as well as help to support City revenues and high quality services. The City Manager of the Year Award recognizes a city manager who has demonstrated exceptional leadership and commitment to serving their community. CCMF selected Mr. Adams as this year’s recipient in recognition of his distinguished career and lasting impact on the city of Temecula and the city management profession. “Aaron is a respected leader within the profession and currently serves as a member of the CCMF Board, where he continues to support and mentor fellow city managers across the state,” said CCMF President Ken Striplin. “Aaron, thank you for your outstanding leadership and your lasting contributions to city management. Congratulations!” Temecula Mayor Jessica Alexander added, “This notable award highlights Aaron Adams’ unwavering commitment to excellence in public service to our great City, and recognizes his outstanding leadership in guiding Temecula’s growth and vibrancy over many years. I deeply respect Aaron’s personal and professional dedication to the City of Temecula.” Mr. Adams’ career with the City of Temecula began over 30 years ago. Initially hired as an intern, he was promoted through various management and executive roles within the city before being appointed city manager in 2012. Under his leadership, and that of the city council, Temecula has achieved significant milestones, including the early payoff of City Hall, accomplishing zero facility debt across the city, and other debt payoffs that will save the city roughly $47M. This proactive planning for the City’s short- and long-term fiscal health provides a strong budget that supports Mr. Adams’ lifetime career commitment to ‘building greatness, maintaining excellence,’ focusing on continuously enhancing the city’s infrastructure, addressing resident priorities and improving municipal services to ensure a high quality of life for Temecula residents, businesses and visitors. “I would like to express my sincere thanks to CCMF and CCMF leadership for this award. I am sincerely honored and humbled to be recognized by my peers,” said Mr. Adams. “I share this award with the Temecula City Council and the entire amazing, talented and dedicated team of staff at the City of Temecula.” CCMF Executive Director Ken Pulskamp said, “Aaron exemplifies the integrity, dedication to public service and work ethic of what every city manager should strive to become.” For more information about CCMF, please visit CACityManagers.org . Search Mayor Jessica Alexander Mayor Pro Tem Matt Rahn Council Member Brenden Kalfus Council Member Zak Schwank Council Member James "Stew" Stewart Home Government City Council Council Member Zak Schwank Council Member Zak Schwank Zak Schwank has lived in Temecula with his wife and children since 2001. Zak has served on School Site Council at Paloma Elementary School and on the PTA Executive Board at Temecula Elementary School. Zak was appointed to the City of Temecula Community Services Commission in 2013 and served as Chairperson from 2015-2018. He was first elected in 2018, re-elected in 2022 and is currently serving his second term on the Temecula City Council. Since moving to Temecula, Zak has tirelessly worked for Temecula families. In 2011, he launched Temecula Bike Train. This organization began as a desire for a program that educated families about cycling and empowered them to choose a bicycle for transportation. Temecula Bike Train started with Paloma Elementary and has grown to include programs at Barnett Elementary and Temecula Elementary. Over the years Zak has partnered with the City of Temecula, The Bike Shop Temecula, and various other agencies and groups to provide education and insight into safely biking to school and work. With the support of many dedicated and knowledgeable community members, Temecula Bike Train has been able to donate more than 50 new and used bikes to children and adults in Temecula. Having started a family in Temecula, Zak is aware of the impact a safe and positive environment has on families. Through his work within the community, Zak sees firsthand the benefits families gain from parks, community theater, museums, classes, and activities offered by the City of Temecula. As a Council Member, Zak will focus on the positive quality of life and family values that make Temecula an exceptional place to live, work, and play. U.S. Flag Program Beginning in 2023, the City of Temecula began partnering with Michelle's Place Cancer Resource Center, Troop 309 (chartered by Michelle's Place), and Temecula Home Depot to bring American flags to Temecula homes (while supplies last).
