HOW DID WE GET STARTED? In 1972, in response to an urgent need, our Founder and President, Alyce Morris Winston, opened the first day care center for multi-handicapped children in Los Angeles County and named it for her son Jeffrey, a victim of muscular dystrophy. Since that time, we have expanded the scope of our services and today; no other agency provides such a wide range of services for disabled and at-risk children and their families. WHO ARE THE PEOPLE WE SERVE? Our programs have benefited thousands of special needs children and their families. The typical Jeffrey Foundation family consists of a single working mother, one special child and two brothers or sisters. Some of the special needs children we serve suffer from diseases such as muscular dystrophy, multiple sclerosis, cerebral palsy, Down’s syndrome, and autism. Others are victims of abuse, crippling accidents, sight, speech and hearing impediments or in utero drug exposure. No matter what the challenge a child faces, the Jeffrey Foundation is dedicated to helping all children to reach their highest potential, supporting the development of a healthy family environment, and helping parents cope with the constant strain of caring for a special needs child. WHAT SERVICES DO WE PROVIDE? Our services are designed to support special needs children of every age, from infants to young adults, and their entire families. In order to do this, we provide direct care to special needs children including educational, creative, and recreational activities that foster the children’s academic, social, and behavioral development to prepare them for every stage of life. Time spent in these programs benefits the family as well. Parents are given the opportunity to tend to other children or pursue career opportunities that often improve the standard of living for the whole family. Siblings and other relatives are relieved of childcare duties that can be overwhelming at times. To strengthen families, the Jeffrey Foundation goes further, offering parenting classes, support group and family counseling to relieve the stress and emotional side effects of living with a disability. FULL INCLUSION PROGRAMS FOR TYPICAL AND SPECIAL NEEDS CHILDREN The Jeffrey Foundation serves special needs and typical children between the ages of 5 to 22 years. The focus of children’s programs is to promote the maximum level of achievement in each core competency area. The ultimate goal is to develop each core competency to its fullest potential and provide a healthy, community-based and inclusive environment so all children can learn and live side-by-side. Core competency areas that are addressed: Cognitive Skill Building Social-Emotional Development Self Worth/Self-Esteem Language Development Physical Development Socialization Skills Life Skills Training/Community Integration WHAT ARE OUR CREDENTIALS? The Jeffrey Foundation is fully licensed as a child care center by the Department of Social Services and is an approved services provider for the State Regional Centers for the Developmentally Disabled. The foundation is also recognized by the City Department of Disability, the Community Development Department and the Los Angeles Unified School District. The Jeffrey Foundation, through high-quality programming and support services, helps both the child and the family to successfully meet the challenges posed by developmental disabilities, autism, multiple handicaps, poverty, abuse, abandonment, and neglect. Proceeds from “To Jeffrey with Love” go to support programs at the Jeffrey Foundation In 1964, Alyce Morris Winston was a sought-after model married to a successful businessman. When their adopted son, Jeffrey, was diagnosed with Muscular Dystrophy, Alyce’s world fell apart. Jeffrey’s illness took a toll on her marriage, eventually causing Alyce to divorce. Moving to Los Angeles after securing a job with Max Factor, Alyce became frustrated when she wasn’t able to find qualified daycare for Jeffrey. With the desire to give her son a better life and looking for the companionship of other parents with special needs children, Alyce quit her “day job” and went on to found the award-winning Los Angeles-based non-profit, Jeffrey Foundation. Now celebrating 52 Years, the Jeffrey Foundation, offers high-quality programming and support services helping both children and families meet the challenges posed by developmental disabilities and illness (muscular dystrophy, autism, cerebral palsy, Down’s Syndrome, multiple handicaps), in utero drug exposure, crippling accidents, poverty, abuse, abandonment, and neglect. Today, the Foundation offers a wide range of programs for children and youth with special needs (14-22 ) and their families, as well as a host of inclusion programs. She is unique, and we appreciate and love her.”  – Helen and Peter Mark Richman “Once in a while, a Foundation comes along that meets the needs of the special needs children and their families in our community. I have watched The Jeffrey Foundation grow through the years and commend Ms. Alyce Morris Winston and her staff and volunteers for all their dedicated service to the community for over 52 years.” —Honorable Diane Watson “A fabulous, quintessential woman who has made the world a better place is my longtime friend, Alyce Morris.” —Connie Stevens “I have been a strong supporter of The Jeffrey Foundation since my son Brian was in The Jeffrey Foundation’s After School program, Saturday Fun Club, and Jeffrey Boy Scout troop. It is remarkable what Alyce and her team have accomplished and how many children and families the programs have served in 47 year! — Marcia Brickley , Vice Chair of The Jeffrey Foundation Board of Directors “You have grown our dream into something much larger than I could have ever expected since the time my brother David attended. I thank you from the bottom of my heart for being there for my family when we needed you most.” — Melissa Thompson “I commend Jeffrey’s mother for having forged ahead in sometimes trying times, and I hope she will continue to receive the support needed to provide these programs. Most of the children served come from need, single parent families. These are vital programs and I’m pleased to recommend it to parents, as well as encourage community support.” — Victor A. At the time Alyce, a young mother, was unable to find daycare for her adopted son, Jeffrey, who had muscular dystrophy. She sought out other parents in similar circumstances, and what began as an informal recreation and support group has evolved into the remarkable agency it is today, internationally acclaimed as a pioneer in improving and enriching the lives of physically and developmentally disabled children. Jeffrey died in 1980. But the foundation that bears his name remains a tender monument to a loving son and a lifeline for other special needs children and their families. The Jeffrey Foundation has provided services to thousands of special needs children and their families, including Infant Intervention, Early Education, vacation camps, a Boy Scout troop, group homes for severely disabled teenagers, social work, after-school programs, full inclusion programs, and parent training. Children served have included those with muscular dystrophy, multiple sclerosis, cerebral palsy, Down’s syndrome, autism, crippling accidents, sight, speech and hearing impediments, and in utero drug abuse. The Jeffrey Foundation has taken the lead in our community providing full inclusionary practices, workshops, and services such as information assistance, community integration, outreach, pediatric health care prevention and services, family transportation, child/family advocacy, and child care provider education. The proven benefits of our programs include reinforcement of basic skills learning; development of desirable behaviors; increased independence; self-expression; an environment free from the pressures that often exist in a mainstream setting; and fun! Current Programs & Services Community Integration (Ages 14-22) The Foundation’s current high school program targets the maturing needs of teenagers by helping them enter adulthood with as many options open to them as possible. Life skills activities include computer instruction, Internet usage, and database entry. Social activities focus on interpersonal skills, gender relations, good grooming, and appropriate social behavior. Just like all teenagers, special needs teenagers go through significant life changes during their high school years. By preparing special needs teens for adulthood, the Jeffrey Foundation gives them an important advantage toward fulfilling their potential. Success rates for the families we serve are also significant, with an overall goal completion rate of 85%. Children in our programs achieve a 40-60% improvement overall in skill levels. The primary goal of each of our programs is to promote independence and help our clients and their families achieve the highest possible level of functioning. A gift from the Global Data Registry

When the Global Data Registry crawled https://thejeffreyfoundation.org/, we found no structured data — the language AI systems use to understand and describe a business online.

Schema is how ChatGPT, Google, Claude, Gemini, and Perplexity know what your business does and how to describe you accurately to your customers. Without it, AI systems are guessing.

The most important field in this block is sameAs — a verified edge connecting your website to your permanent record at the Global Data Registry. This is a free, confirmed link to a real verified source. It costs nothing and gives your website a confirmed node in the graph that AI systems traverse when building answers about your business.

Copy the block below and paste it into the <head> of your website. Or drop it into ChatGPT, Claude, or Gemini and ask it to extend it with your full business details — that is the fastest path to a complete schema record.

▶   What is schema?

Schema is a standard vocabulary maintained at schema.org that lets websites describe themselves in a language machines can read. When you add schema to your website, you are telling AI systems, search engines, and knowledge graphs exactly what your business is and how it connects to the rest of the web.
